Y/n was laying on her stomach on the rug near the fireplace reading one of the monster history books. Asgore was sitting in his large armchair with a pair of reading glasses resting on his snout as he read a book.
The girl could make out "72 Uses for Snails" on the cover. When is he going to finish that book? It's been a month and a half- heck maybe even more! She thought. The fire crackled happily as the two read in silence; reading together in the evenings had become a routine of theirs in the past 6 weeks.
"Y/n?" Asgore said, adjusting his glasses and looking down to her spot on the rug she was lying on. "I never did ask you how you fell down, or for what reason."
"Uh-huh," Y/n nodded slowly. "Do you wanna know?"
"That is why I am asking, is it not?" Asgore replied calmly. Duh of course, why else would he ask, she scolded herself. Y/n thought about it for a second. Why was the reason again...?
"OH! ok I remember now!" she exclaimed, causing Asgore to flinch at her sudden outburst. The girl closed her book and sat cross legged on the rug in front of him. "My friends and I were having a sleepover that day. I think it was a Saturday...But anyway, we were on a mini exploring trip up Mount Ebbott and we somehow got to the top. One of my friends dared someone to go up to the huge hole that leads down here. None of my friends would do it...and...me, being the stupid adult I am, decided I'd do it to show off I guess?"
She shrugged as Asgore gave her a disappointed look. "That was not smart," he said plainly. Y/n gave him an irritated look.
"Yes, I know dad. But then you wouldn't've met me!" Y/n shot back, a smile on her face. Asgore rolled his eyes and gestured for her to continue. "So, I went to the ledge... and you'll NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENED. I TRIPPED AND FELL IN. OF COURSE!" Asgore snorted at her way of telling the story, triggering her to laugh as well. "If being clumsy was a currency I would be a billionaire by now," she laughed.
"Pff, yeah it was stupid. But that's what happened. And I broke my leg when I fell." She didn't mention how her leg wouldn't have broken if it weren't for the vine. The vine that was probably from Flowey. Asgore seemed to zone out for a second, then returned and nodded in her direction.
"I see. But that does not explain why the flower was talking to you and... and hurting, you," he said slowly. "Was there a particular reason that you can remember?" Y/n looked down, shifting her legs so they were to the side and then leaning on her arm, taking a second to think. I remember him saying he wanted to show me how things worked down here. But I don't know what he meant by that. Asgore is super nice, but could other monsters be mean? Was he trying to help me? I mean he did hurt me and looked bent on killing me. Ugh. I have no idea.
"We introduced ourselves and I thought he was friendly," Y/n said. "But then he said he wanted to show me how things worked and then attacked me and asked me to fight back and how I sh-should be stronger a-and, and," she stopped to catch her breath because she had been speaking so quickly. She began to shake as the memory of the vines pulling on her limbs returned like a brick; the feeling of being pulled apart shaking her to the core. Asgore furrowed his thick brows and gave her a look of concern.
