They say curiosity killed the cat. It might just kill the human too.

Y/n watched as her caretaker Asgore left the main room. She watched as he unlocked the gate that blocked the way down and descended it.

What was he going to do?

Y/n got up quietly from her chair and walked to the flight of stairs. Asgore had called it a "basement" when she asked a month ago. He wouldn't say anything more, and he wouldn't let her go down there when he did.

The girl walked down the creaky stairs and followed a long stone corridor. It was lit with a torch every few feet, the light from them reflecting onto the deep purple stone walls and floor. After turning a few corners of the long corridors, she peeked around to see Asgore standing in front of a massive door. In the middle of the door was engraved the Deltarune, the symbol of the prophecy and the Royal Crest Asgore had told her about.

"I told you to stay," Asgore said, his voice low and harsh. He turned around to face the girl. "I have never asked anything of you for as long as you have been here. I ask now that you please turn around and go to your room."

"What are you going to do?" she asked. Asgore sighed, conjuring a flame in his paw.

"I am going to destroy the exit so you will not leave." Y/n looked horrified and took a step forward. "Do not move an inch Y/n. Please, try to understand why I am doing this. I do not want you to get hurt. If you leave the Ruins you will surely be killed by Toriel or her Royal Guards, I am trying to protect you! Now return to your room!"

Y/n did not move. "I-I just asked to see the outside. You could come with me and protect me if you wan- "

"NO!" Asgore shouted, sending a fire ball at her. "Go to your room child! It's like this every time, and I'm tired of it! A child comes. They live with me for a time. They leave. And then they die...! I will not allow this to continue!" The monster was shaking, another fire attack writhing up his robed arm, tears forming in the corners of his eyes.

Y/n stood her ground and did not make any movements to leave. "Do you truly want to leave so badly you still won't listen?!"

"Please, I can't... I love you, but I don't want to stay here forever," Y/n replied softly. "I'll be fine. I can protect myself; I promise."

Asgore grunted. "If you really must know..." The room seemed to darken as he spoke. "Then show me you mean what you say. Show me you can defend yourself!"

The room became completely black, Asgore's tall figure stood opposite Y/n.

Oh no. I really did it now didn't I?

Without warning, Asgore took the first turn and hurled a series of fire attacks at her. The girl managed to dodge most of them, one of them grazing her sweater arm. Ok, he's serious about this isn't he?

Y/n quickly took out her stick and charged towards him. She successfully landed a hit on his arm and retreated to the back. He wore a surprised expression, but hurled a few more attacks at her. Y/n continued to dodge, and she continued to land small hits on him.

Eventually, she noticed his HP was lower than before. I don't want to kill him. I just, want to leave. Perhaps he'll listen now...

Y/n tossed her stick aside. "I've proved I can handle myself. Please Asgore, let me leave!" she cried. He refused to make eye contact, instead his attacks became easier to avoid and weaker when hit. He stayed silent. She dodged and didn't fight back. "C'mon, please just STOP FIGHTING!"
