Chapter 3: Victory And Sorrow

~Len's POV~

"You have met your match!" I heard Rin yell childishly. I couldn't help but grin at her statement, it's fun to see her having fun. It's definitely different from back then, but that doesn't matter. I searched diligently for the small slip of paper that contained our next clue, but to my dismay, saw Kaito also looking. I force myself to look for it and find it, because I know what Rin can do.

The next thing I knew Rin was holding Miku by one of her long pigtails and, to my surprise, were both giving out a giggle. Rin's smile lit up the already bright atmosphere and I couldn't help but stare. And that's when I saw it, the clue. With fast motions, I ran to it and picked it up.

"Rin-Chan! I found it!" I waved the small piece of note in the air as if it were a flag of freedom. With a groan from the two love birds, Rin's eyes lit up like a child's and she ran over to me quickly. "Great job, Len-kun!" She softly punched my shoulder in play. I couldn't help but give a small laugh in response. I opened up the letter to see "It's so big!", and read it out loud. But I only got the silly response, from Rin, "that's what she said.".

I laughed at her joke, but then got to thinking. 'It's so big? What's that supposed to mean!" I yelled mentally in my head. When looking over to Rin, she had her hand placed on her chin in thought. Suddenly, her eyes lit up like a light bulb. "The Hatsune Sculpture!" She called out. Miku-San's father had donated a vast sculpture to the park in thanks to its standing for a long time, considering her dad's the Mayor.

I followed her to the sculpture to see the note unoccupied and unread. I ran to it quickly, glad of the easiness, and read it out loud to Rin. "Kids eat these in the summer time." I read and immediately thought of the ice cream stand. With roles reversed, I grabbed Rin's hand, to her surprise, and dragged her to the ice cream stand, to see none other than Kaito-Kun getting a bar. Next to the stand was the note, easy. Have Meiko and Luka already gotten out? And that's when I heard Gumi's surprising voice.

"Congratulations!" She yelled behind us, and we both looked back to see her holding ice cream bars. She gave them to us and I can only assume that we won. Eh, not bad.

~Rin's POV~

Victory is mine! Take that, everyone! I laughed mercilessly as I took the ice cream, continuing my laugh. Meiko-san and Luka-San soon showed up along with Gakupo-kun and we were all together. It was a bit of a boring hunt, but it was fun. We walked under a large tree with shade and set down a blanket. Luka and Miku got out a picnic basket almost out of nowhere and got out the food. I assume we're having lunch?

I sat down next to Gakupo-kun and Kaito-kun, feeling extremely short due to their tall heights. I kind of saw Kaito as a big brother, and Gakupo as a dad, with Luka as the mum. Meiko and Miku big sisters, and I guess Len a brother too... But it just felt weird to call him a brother. I wonder why?

I ate a sandwich quietly and quickly, but then thought about the apology I owed Len. "Hey, Len, can I talk to you for a bit?" I asked the blonde boy, and he looked surprised. Len gave me a nod and we walked to where the playground was. I could almost hear a Miku-San say something about our relationship. Geez....

I stood in front of Len with a smile and noticed the blush on his cheeks, which only made me blush. "U-uh... I wanted to apologize..." I told him, and he was obviously confused. "For what?" He was puzzled. "For lashing out on you yesterday.... It was immature and stupid of me... So yeah..." I said nervously. "How can I pay you back?"

"You don't have to." He replied to my dismay. I hated leaving people with no owe.

"Yes I do."

"No you don't."

"Yes, yes I do!"

"No, no you don't." We argued, but Len remained his cool. "Unless you want to kiss me."

The thought made me melt in blush. "K-kiss?" I repeated what he wanted me to do, and he poked his cheek. "Right there." He smirked.

"On second thought I don't think I need to repay you." I answered with a smile. He fake whined and smiled along with me. Did he really want me to kiss him? I barely know him.... But for some reason... He felt so familiar. Len started walking back to the blanket and I stood there, comforted by only the billow's angry roars of wind.

Kiss? Yea, right!As I said before, I barely know him! He had to be joking, I mean, who would want to kiss me? Psh. No one. In fact, I'm surprised he's even my friend, but can I really consider him, and the rest, friends? I've only meant them for a week... No, I can't have friends, I'll just get hurt again...

I started walking over to the blanket when I received a text message, and brought out my phone to look at the text message. The message made me want to burst into tears and just melt into nothing. It made my life feel useless and want to die, nothing could make me happy, nothing.

"I'm sorry, Kagmine Rin, but your father is now in the hospital in a coma."

And with that, I ram away, placing my phone in my pocket. I ran, never stopping, never looking back. I heard Miku and other's voices yelling out to me, and that's when I couldn't hold back my tears anymore. I cried, but I wasn't ashamed. How could I? My father is in a coma, why wouldn't I be crying? It's only the relevant thing to do.

"Rin! What's wrong!" I heard Miku tell, as if coming closer by the second. I fell to my knees and covered my eyes with my hands in distress. I felt a soothing hand massage my back, assuming it's Luka, and hearing Miku asked if I was okay. I showed her the message and could hear her gasp. I just cried, cried and cried. Just then another message came, and Miku almost stopped breathing.

"Please come to the hospital quick, this may be an emergency."
