Chapter 5

TIME SKIP *5 YEARS*

“Thank you for seeing me today Doctor Craft.” I shook my patient's hand.

“It was my pleasure make sure you schedule your next appointment with Vanessa at the front desk.” I said waving him out my office. Sighing I plopped down and began to think back to how I got to this position.

“Ellis I need to speak with you.” I walked into my bosses office.

“Yes Doctor Sanchez?” I questioned unsure.

“I have been seeing you putting in extra hours and have been working harder ever since Dante’s arrival and since I want to help you I’m going to promote you to the new opening spot as a Doctor.” I just stood there in shock.

“Umm Ellis are you okay.” I snapped out of my trance.

“Yes I’m fine, thank you so much for the promotion boss!”

I was so filled with joy I just throw my arms around him. After calming down I realized how inappropriate I was behaving hugging my boss. Releasing him from my death grip of a hug I apologized, thanked him again and ran out the room so I could spread the good news.

That was a year and a half ago, I dropped my head on my desk and let out a sigh.

“Ellis you have visitors.” Vanessa called through the intercom.

“Can you send them away? I need a break.” I said in a tired voice, she laughed through the speaker.

"Trust me you'll want to see these two.” Vanessa said hanging ending the connection. I heard my door click open.

“Hey L.” I knew only my family called by that nickname I looked to see my sister walking in with my little angel.

“What’s up?” I casually answered backing going towards her and bumping fists.

“Hey sweetie.” I said shifting my attention to Dante. “How was your Aunt Lily’s?” He shrugged and said in his small voice. “I like to play with Angel.”

He said talking about my sisters pet bunny, I nodded and ruffled his hair. “Alright well Mommy gotta finish some more paperwork before we can leave.” I explained to Dante he nodded and made himself comfortable on the small couch.

“Thanks for looking after him today.” I thanked Lily.

“No problem I love having Dante over.” she said as she walked out.

After I finished my paperwork that was left for the day I started to drive to the hospital for Dante’s monthly check up.

“Welcome back Ms.Craft.” Dr. West greeted. I forced a smile she still wasn’t my favorite person at the moment.

“Dante how have you been feeling?" Dante just looked up towards her and adjusted his glasses.

“Same as always I guess.” He said in a monotone voice.

“Okay so were just going to do the normal check to make sure everything is in order.” After scanning Dante’s eyes Doctor West pulled me to the side.

“Look Ms.Craft you're a doctor to so you understand the risks of him going to school.”

“Exactly but your telling me I shouldn’t send him to school like he is already an outcast.” I whispered yelled. “It doesn’t matter what I say you're still aren’t going to write the approval letter.” I said giving up.

“Fine whatever Dante lets go we’re going home.” I said with a last glare to the doctor.

“Mommy what are we doing tomorrow?” Dante asked getting ready for bed.

“We’re gonna go bug your Auntie Emily for the day since I have no patients tomorrow.” I said with an evil smile on my face.

“Mommy you know Auntie Emily doesn’t like when you do that.”

“I know but I do it anyways.” I took off his dark shades and kissed his forehead saying goodnight and left him to sleep. I was debating if I should warn Emily of our surprise drop in tomorrow but I decided against it. I could practically already see her shaking her lowered head at me. Laughing softly to myself about how well I know my best friend I decided to do so late night reading first before going to sleep.

After reading for about two hours straight I decided I needed a break to rest my eyes and have a little late night snack. Walking into the kitchen I debated on what to eat, finally deciding on an apple I went back to my room and clicked on my television. I wasn’t really paying attention to the flashing colors on the screen but instead I started to zone out.

‘What the hell am I even doing with myself. Yeah I know I have Dante but then what? What am I really planning to do with my future and will I even be able to handle the future? I know I have been doing okay for the past 5 years but thats only because I'm just trying to survive each day the best I can.’

Groaning I snapped out of my thoughts,“I hate when I start to think like that.” I whispered to myself.

Looking at the time I noticed it was midnight sighing I clicked off the T.V and rolled over in bed. A good two minutes past before I heard my door slowly opening. Turning my head to the door I squinted my eyes in the dark and saw a small figure at the door.

“Mommy?” Dante asked in a soft voice. I sat up and turned on the light next to my bed.

“What’s wrong sweetie?” I asked worried.

“I just woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep.” He explained.

“You wanna sleep with Mommy?” I asked, he nodded.

“Come on.” I said lifting the covers with a smile on my face. He came to lay in the bed with settling under the blankets. I clicked off the light and got comfortable. Dante reached for my face and leaned in to kiss me on the cheek

“Good night Mommy.” I smiled again.

“Good night Dante.” I leaned in to kiss him on the forehead and we both drifted to sleep.
