You’re all going to think I’m crazy after you hear this story but I swear it’s true every word of it. Yeah I know most of the things I say may be lies, but I swear this time im telling the truth. Sometimes I just look back at what happened and I wonder is there anything better I could have done. ‘What if I had said this or what if I had actually done something?’ These are the questions that haunt me every night right before bed. I try to avoid those thoughts but when I just sit and think I regret everything I’ve done.

I was just like any other night when I got the surprise of my life. Looking at the clock I noticed it was almost 3 in the morning knowing I had work and ignoring the fact, I clicked on another episode of anime. In the midst of the episode there was a knock on my door.

‘The hell?’ Slowly reaching under my pillow I grabbed my favorite pair of scissors. Getting up from  the bed I adjusted my pajamas which only consisted of a tee shirt and underwear. When I reached the door I looked through the peephole. Strangely there was no one the other side, waiting for another minute just staring out the small hole through my door no one popped up.

Turning around I was about to head back into my room but a cry from right behind the front door stopped me. Freezing in mid walk I strained my ears to make sure I was hearing right. I knew none of my neighbors didn't have any babies so I was confused. Going back to the door I looked through the peephole once more I still didn't see anyone but I could still hear the cries. Taking a deep breath I thought to myself how stupid of an idea this was but slowly unlocked the door. Holding the doorknob in one hand and gripping my scissors tighter in the other I cautiously opened the door. You couldn't even imagine my shock when I saw a baby boy wrapped in only a blanket laying in front of my door.

Stepping outside a bit I looked around to see if anyone was around but the whole block was void of any life. Sighing I looked down find the baby no longer crying but staring up at me in curiosity. After a moment of staring and deciding the boy wasn't of any of harm to me I crouched down and grabbed the little bundle with my free hand and took him inside my house. Not really sure what to do in this situation I did what I always did in a moment of distress called my best friend Emily. After a few rings she picked up.

"Ellis this better be good its 3 in the morning.”

“You already should know there's something wrong if I'm calling you instead of texting.”

After explaining the situation she decided she would come over to help me with my situation. When I hung up I looked down at the baby still in my arms saying the only thing that I could think of in this moment .

“Shit”

When Emily arrived I showed her the now asleep baby laying on my couch. “Ellis of all the weird situations we’ve been through in the 8 years. This has to be number one on the list.”

“Trust me I know.”

“So what are you gonna do?” She asked.

“Why do you think I called you here just so we can have milk and cookies?” I stated sarcastically. She just stared at me saying nothing. Sighing I admitted I needed her help.

“What do I do?”

“I think what we both need is sleep and we can figure this out in the morning.”

“Yeah umm we got a problem though...where is he gonna sleep?” I asked pointing to the baby sleeping on the couch. “Babies can’t sleep by themselves.”

“Just let him sleep with you.” She simply said walking off to the guest bedroom.

The next morning I was awoken by cries next to me. “Okay okay little one I’m up.” Picking up the little baby I went to see if Emily was awake.

“Em you up?” I asked walking into the room. “Yeah so what are we going to do?”

“Pro’s and con’s.” Whenever in a situation where I was unsure of what to do I would list out the pro’s and con’s.

“Alright let's start.” She said moving over in the bed to give me room to sit.

“Pro I have the son I always wanted without going through childbirth so yay, ummmm oh I can raise him to be gay.”  I said in a joking manner.

“Hmmm con” I thought outloud.

“Oh yea how about the fact that I’m a 20 year old that is completely unprepared for raising a child that might be something important.”

“There is also the fact that I have no idea who’s child this is, so Emily what do you think should I keep him?” I asked.

“Ellis you have to remember no one is really prepared to have a child.”

“True chiz” I simply stated seeing her point.

“The question is do you want to raise him”

“Yes”

“Then you have your answer he was abandoned at your door so technically his parents didn't want him so someone needs to take care of him.” Emily said getting up and stretching.

“Then I guess I’m keeping you cutie.” I said to the baby that was silent during this whole conversation.

“You know Em you helping me raise him right.” I said with a evil smirk she froze.

“No way Ellis you know how I feel about having children.” She said

“Too bad you convinced me and there is now way you can back out of this.” I said standing up getting ready to for the day. “We have to go get food for him so hurry and get dressed.” I said walking out the room.

We were both finally ready to start the day, walking out the door I started for my car.

“No way are we taking your car.” Emily said from behind me.

“Why there’s nothing wrong with my car?” I questioned.

“Yeah there’s nothing wrong with the car, but you on the other hand are not driving me anywhere after last time you drove.” Emily said heading for her car.

“Meanie” I mumbled following after her.

“Come on Em let me drive I promise I won't hit anyone this time whether its for points or accidental.”

“No, its a wonder how you even have a license.” Emily said starting to pull out of the driveway .

“I have a license ‘cause I’m an awesome driver” Emily rolled her eyes. “Sure you are, so where to first?”

“Publix we need to feed him.”

Emily and I spent the whole day buying baby supplies. “Thank god you’re here with me I’m still bad at counting my money” I said to Emily.

“That’s a shame you are a grown women you should know how to count your money.” She scolded.

“Yeah yeah I know” I said waving her off.

“Did you call in work to tell them you weren’t coming in?” Emily asked.

“Ummm... if I told you yes would you believe me?” I asked with a guilty smile on my face. Emily just shook her head at my childish behavior.

“Are we staying at my house or your’s?” I asked.

“We can stay at mine, you still have clothes there right?”

“Yup, by the way did you see the new seas-” “ELLIS!!!” I was cut off by a furious yell, grimacing at the familiar voice I refused to turn around.

“Not again” I mumbled to myself annoyed.
