We're Having A Baby

Chapter 4

When we arrived to the hospital its was around 11 o’ clock. We get checked in and was immediately sent to a room. While we waited for the doctor I was instructed to fill out a for for Dante.

“Hmmm how old would you guess Dante is?” I questioned Emily.

“I’d give it about a month." she said.

“Yeah thats kinda what I was thinking.” I said jotting down the information on the paper. Once I finally finished the form the door opened revealing a women.

“Hello I’m Doctor West." She greeted I stood up and shook her hand.

“Hello I’m Ellis and this is Emily.”

“Well it’s nice to meet you both, now which one of you are the guardian of Dante?”

“That would be me” I said.

“Ahh okay well I’m just going to do a checkup make sure everything is in order.” She explained.

“Alright.” Emily handed Dante over to the Doctor who placed him in the bed.

“Is he eating properly?” She asked checking his heart and breathing with the stethoscope.

“Yes”

“Does he sleep normally, by that I mean does he sleep through the night and takes naps during the day?” She explained.

“Oh yes and he sleeps really peaceful too.” She nodded at my response and checked his throat next.

“How long has he been with you?” She asked moving on to his ears.

“Two full days” She nodded and wrote down some notes on her clipboard then began checking on his eyes.

“Strange...” She muttered to herself Emily and I shared a look.

“What's strange?”

“He has a very slow response in his eyes”

“How to me it seems like he can see perfectly fine.”

“I’m just gonna run a test to get a result on his vision.” She said walking out the room.

Dr. West was gone for 15 minutes. I was pacing back and forth in the room from nervousness, Dante had fallen asleep and Emily was checking her email.

“Fifteen minutes this women was gone for fifthteen freakin minutes. What the fuck is she doing searching for the damn chamber of secrets?!?”

“Ellis, will you just sit and calm down?” I huffed in annoyance.

“Fine I’ll sit, but I won’t be calm I said plopping down in the chair next to her."

Two minutes later the doctor walked through the door, I jumped up.“DOCTOR, WELL WHAT’S WRONG!?”

“Ms. Craft I’m going to have to ask you to lower your voice.”

“Oh yes sorry about that.” I said sheepishly.

“I apologize for taking so long ma’am, but I had to run a few test on Dante‘s vision and I have come to the conclusion that your son has a very rare eye disease. He will be most likely be blind before he is a toddler, I’m sorry Ms. Craft.  I’m scheduling the next appointment to check his eyes for next month.” She scribbled something down on a paper and handed it to me.

“If anything seems unusual about Dante to you call me my numbers on that paper. Have a good day Ms. Craft.” She said walking out the door I was in such a shock.

Emily placed a hand on my shoulder. “Hey are you okay?”

“I’m not sure.” I said I stood up and went to grab Dante.

“Lets go.” I said walking out the door, Emily followed behind me with a worried look. When we reached the car Emily asked me where to.

“Just take me home I need to the think about this.”

“Okay.” She said driving the car, once we got to my house I got out the car and went to get Dante. “You want me to come in?” Emily asked.

“No it’s fine. I need some time alone to think.” Emily gave me a knowing look, and I just flashed her a smile.

“I’ll be fine don’t worry ‘bout me.” I walked into my house and placed Dante into his new crib. I sighed and rubbed my eyes letting out a light chuckle.

“I’m totally screwed.”
