In the Cage:
"Can you really beat her?" Cas asks.
"I can." Lucifer smirks.
Cas thinks of Dean at this moment. How he would give everything for his hunter.
"Then, yes."
And there it is, all Lucifer needed. Now he has a new vessel.
-
Later:
Crowley tells them to get out of Hell, and so Castiel, Dean, and Sam walk to the Impala.
"You alright?" Dean asks Cas.
"I think so. I will be."
"You want me to give you a lift?"
"No, you two go on ahead. I'll catch up."
Dean nods, and Cas watches as he enters the Impala and drives off with Sam.
-
For the next few days, Dean doesn't hear from Cas. He couldn't help but think that Cas was ignoring him.
He is proved wrong when Dean is in the kitchen one morning, and his angel shows up.
Cas shows up as soon as Dean turns around, holding a cup of coffee.
"Dammit, Cas," Dean grumbles, spilling some of his drink onto the floor.
"My apologies, Dean." The angel replies.
He waves it off and sits at the table, with Cas following. The angel watches him with a curious gaze as he takes a long sip from the cup.
Dean interprets the curiosity in his eyes as wanting a cup as well. Cas doesn't eat or drink much, but Dean knows he likes drinks such as coffee and the occasional beer.
Without asking, Dean grabs one of the mugs he bought for Cas and pours the coffee, then adds a lot of sugar and a splash of milk - the way Cas likes it.
Walking back over with the drink, he places it in front of Cas and sits across from the angel again. Dean notices Cas staring at the coffee in front of him as if he's never seen it before.
Clearing his throat, Dean asks, "I think I got it right this time. 6 sugars, right?"
As if in a trance, Cas snaps his head up at the question. "Uh, yes. Thank you, Dean."
Almost seeming hesitant, Cas slowly brings the drink to his lips and takes a small sip. From the corner of his eye, Dean notices how his face slightly scrunches up and sets the cup down.
"So I'm guessing you've been in Heaven since I last saw you." He comments.
It takes a moment for Cas to respond.
"Heaven? Oh, yes, I have." Cas nods.
"And you didn't come here just to talk over a cup of coffee."
He then starts to ask Dean about the Darkness, strangely enough.
As if Cas has forgotten.
And so, they both start to talk about the Darkness and ways to stop it.
One thing that stumps Dean is that Cas talks as if he has more angel grace than he actually does. Most solutions to their problem would include the power of an archangel - which Cas definitely isn't.
About 15 minutes later, Sam enters the kitchen - messy hair and all - and unintentionally succeeds in ending the conversation. Cas greets Sam, almost with a smirk.
Cas puts his hand on Dean's right shoulder and says goodbye, something along the lines of "I'll be in touch."
The flutter of wings is heard, and for some reason, something doesn't seem right to Dean - maybe the same reason why Dean touches the shoulder Cas put his hand on.
He tries not to think much of it - but the number of times his brain screams at him that something's wrong makes it difficult.
Sam's voice brings him back to the kitchen.
"So what did Cas want?" Sam questions.
He has to think for a moment.
What did he want?
Oh, that's right.
"We were just talking about Amara and how she could be stopped," Dean answers distractedly.
"Was Cas using this?" Sam pointed towards the cup Cas left behind on the table.
Sam points out that he must not have wanted any, seeing how it was barely touched.
Dean thinks otherwise.
