1 week before Cas said yes:
It hasn't been very long since Amara appeared and is now determined to destroy the world. Sam, Dean and Castiel are trying to get information about what they are dealing with early on. After yet another day of not finding anything useful, the three of them stop for the time being.
Sam heads straight to his room while Dean leads Cas into his room.
They share a bed now so that Cas can 'watch over him'. Dean doesn't mind it anymore.
"Cas?" Dean asks once they are both in bed.
"Yes, Dean?"
"If the world doesn't end, what would you want to do?"
"Don't think like that, Dean. Do I have to remind you how many times you and Sam have saved the world?" Dean can feel Cas stare as he talks.
"I know, but I can't help it," Dean starts to play with Cas' fingers, refusing to look at the angel. "You didn't answer my question."
"What I would do when the world doesn't end? Well, I would want to be with you, and I would do anything for that to happen."
Dean's heart flutters at the answer.
"Anything? Am I that special?" Dean jokes.
"Of course, Dean."
Dean attempted to cuddle closer to Cas, but considering how close they already were, it probably wasn't possible.
"I hope you know how much you mean to me, Cas." Dean could feel himself slowly falling asleep.
"I know. Now, get some sleep. I'll watch over you." Cas started to run his hands through Dean's hair.
Dean had the sudden realisation that this is where he wants to spend the rest of his days.
With his angel.

The next encounter between Dean and Cas is in the library two days later.
It's the early hours of the morning, and Dean can't sleep. He usually can't sleep well without Cas. Dean wanders into the library, hoping to do more research on the current threat - the Darkness.
Looking through one of the bookshelves is Cas, who is unaware of Dean's presence. Dean takes the opportunity to snake his arms around the angel's waist.
Cas jumps at the touch.
"Morning, sunshine." Dean mumbles, voice still heavy with sleep.
"Hello, Dean."
Cas is looking through the few books they have on angels. Dean lets go of Cas and picks up one of the books placed on a nearby table.
"What are you looking for, Cas?"
He spins to look at the hunter. "I'm trying to find ways to defeat the Darkness." He stammers out.
"I was thinking of doing the same." Dean smiles and grabs one of the lore books.
"Can I keep you company?' He continues.
"Of course, Dean."
For the next hour or so, they sit in silence - both focusing on the information in front of them.
Finally, Dean starts to grow more and more tired and decides to try his luck at getting more sleep.
As he stands from his seat, Cas looks up at him. "I'm going to try to get some more sleep," Dean announces. "Care to join me?"
Dean expected the angel to follow him. Cas usually finds it necessary to watch over him, and Dean accepts it now.
"I should probably do some more research." Cas states and looks back down at his book.
"You can bring it to bed if you want?" Dean suggests.
Without looking up, Cas replies: "I'll stay here. Have a good sleep, Dean."
"Oh, okay. See you later." Dean tries not to let it get to him. He squeezes Cas' shoulder and walks back to his room.
He doesn't get any more sleep. Instead, Dean is left thinking of his angel and wishing for his warmth.
