The next day, Dean wakes up to an empty bed. He wonders if the return of Cas was just some sick joke his brain came up with as he dreamt.

But he realises that the other side of the bed is still slightly warm.

So Cas might still be here.

Dean decides to look for the angel. The first clue he gets is the smell of food wafting through the Bunker.

When he walks into the kitchen, Sam and Cas are sat at the table. It sounds like they are talking about a new case as Sam eats a salad.

Cas has his back turned to the door, so only Sam notices Dean walk in.

"Hey, sleepyhead."

Dean nods in reply and joins them at the table, choosing to sit next to his angel.

"Are you seriously eating a salad for breakfast?" He retorts.

"Dean. It's lunchtime." Cas comments.

Dean looks up at the clock to confirm.

1:15pm

So it is.

"Huh. I guess I needed the sleep then."

Dean leans back in his seat and slings an arm over his boyfriend, who leans into the touch.

A grin breaks out on Sam's face.

"Aw, aren't you two adorable?"

A pause.

"Shut up, Sam."

-

For the rest of the day, Dean plays nurse and looks after Cas as he slowly heals from when Lucifer used his vessel.

Cas is forced to stay in bed as Dean watches over him - for once.

Dean introduces Cas to some of his favourite movies. They both lie in bed, and during the 4th movie, Dean falls asleep yet again.

The credits of the movie wake him up with a start.

"Hey, sleepyhead." Cas chuckles, stealing Sam's previous line.

Dean groans and falls back onto his pillow, attempting to get comfortable again. His stomach has other plans.

Dean realises he hasn't eaten today yet.

In his sleepy state, Dean trudges to the kitchen to get his dinner sorted.

Cas follows him a few moments later and helps with dinner.

The spaghetti is cooked when Sam pokes his head into the room and joins in helping make dinner.

Cas is next to the stove, watching Dean cook.

"Can I have the sauce, sweetheart?" Dean asks.

Cas nods and looks for the spaghetti sauce.

"Is he sweetheart now?" Sam teases.

In unison, the couple reply:

"Shut up, Sam."

That night, the three of them head to their rooms with the brothers happily full from dinner.

Sam passes out almost immediately, while Dean and Cas stay up to talk.

"Hey, Cas?"

"Dean."

"Thank you for everything. I know that you would do anything to protect me, and that's why I can't ask for anyone better than you."

Cas kisses him passionately.

"I love you, Dean."

Dean wants nothing more than to be with his angel forever, the one he loves and won't ever stop loving - no matter the number of times they are separated.

"I love you more, sweetheart."

They both know that whatever problems they may face, they'll get through them - together.

Dean is ready to face the world with his brother and angel by his side.

And for many more years to come.
