Ember heard the footsteps come closer, she tried breathing as silently as possible, trying to find a way to hear the footsteps, and where it came from.

Her breath became pieces of exhales, her whole body froze, she was scared to turn around. Her eyes went to the side, trying to see through it, trying to see who was behind her.

The footsteps came closer, and her breath was almost as silent as she wasn't breathing at all. All of the sudden, the footsteps stopped and Ember hoped whatever she heard, vanished, walked away, something.

Why was there somebody in the woods, not trying to get noticed? What was the point..? Ember thought about it for a second, trying to let herself believe it was one of those stupid gladers.

Her day couldn't possibly get more complicated now could it? She tried turning around but before she took the move, she felt it.

She felt a grunt behind her, a inhale, a exhale. It smelled like grass, dirt, blood but the most terrifying smell was, the smell that felt like death.

"You should have never come here!" A big yell came from behind her as two hands were gripping her shoulders, trying to lay her down onto the ground.

Defenseless, Ember tried to scream, but she couldn't. She was frozen, she didn't understand what was going on around her, all she could feel was anxiousness.

Ember struggled, she tried to pull his hands off of her shoulders, but she couldn't. Her muscles froze, her ears gave nothing but her loud heartbeat.

She turned around, hearing his breathe still as close as it already was before, his grunting making the secenerio even more scarier than ever.

"Please.." Ember said with desperation, as she faced the man, looking him right in the eyes, trying to convince this was all just a bad dream.

She faced reality, looking directly at the boy. His eyes were terrific red, his neck and face had black veins and his smell, it smelled like she was standing infront of a rotting corpse.

Ember knew she wasn't going to last long in a maze full of boys, but she certainly wasn't expecting it to be this fast.

It scared her, she wanted to keep living, but at the same time she felt peace. The feeling of forgetting all of this, the fact she could finally dream again, without seeing a nightmare.

The man growled as his brown curls, curled infront of his face, his dark brown eyebrows kept frowning and his angry expression looking at Ember.

His big growl echoed through the forest as he jumped onto Ember, his arms around her, his legs locking hers. The big jump on Ember made her hurt her head, all she could feel was a banging
headache on the back of her head.

As he laid on top of Ember she saw his face, a full raged face. "Help!" Ember screamed as hard as she could, her head still injured from before.

The ringing feeling in her ear, his hands on her shoulders, close to her neck. His breath coming closer to her face, and the water filling her eyes.

"I saw you.. I- I saw you!" As he yelled with every word he shook Ember, with every move his long, dirty nails digged deeper, and with the last word, blood started coming out of it.

"Stop please, I-" Another scream echoed through the forest as Ember tried to struggle, she had enough and wanted to be free, she didn't want to die, not yet.

"Get off me!" A fuel of rage overcame Ember as she tried kicking the boy off, she hadn't seen him before, but maybe she did, she couldn't recognize him. Well it was obviously she hasn't been long here.

The boy took his two hands off Ember's shoulders and moved them to her throat, and with pressure, Ember's breath slowly ran out.

"S- stop.." Ember struggled, her legs started kicking, her arms trying to pull him away. It hadn't had any use. Suddenly the boy was thrown off Ember, and with deep inhales she tried to recover herself from what had just happened.

Ember tried sitting up to see who had just saved her  from the attack only to see the person she had least expect. He turned around but it didn't matter because Ember already knew who it was.

"Are you alright Greenie?" The boy turned himself around and reached out his hands hoping Ember would take it. She hadn't really liked him since she arrived, but this situation changed it.

"W- who was that?" Ember took his hands and tried standing up while she held her other hands on her forehead. I'm sweating. Ember thoughts as she felt the sweat on her head.

"That my friend, was somebody who got stung." Stung? What does that even mean. The word stung scared Ember by even thinking about it.

"Thank you for saving me." Ember looked the boy right in his eyes, and yet she still felt more familiar than normal, especially with him. "No problem Greenie."

As Ember was talking to the boy she hadn't realised the person who attacked her, had vanished. "Wait where did that boy go?" Ember looked over the boy's shoulder, trying to detect the boy who got stung.

It still gave her goosebumps to think about it. "Oh, he couldn't have come far, he'll go back soon." He looked over his shoulder to see the boy running away instead of attacking him.

"Why didn't he attack you?" Ember asked, she felt the right to know, why Ember and not him? It felt selffish to think that, but than again, she didn't deserve that.

"He isn't completely done with his transition, he still has some common sense to know who I am." The boy chuckled as he looked back at Ember, "I don't feel so good, can we go back?" Without hesitation the boy nodded as they start walking back.

"Oh and by the way, please don't tell the others about the attack. I don't want to cause another scene." Ember looked at Gally as she rubbed her neck, trying to wipe the blood away.

"What about your wound? It has to be treated. "The boy looked at Ember with confusion, why wouldn't she wanna get that checked? "I'll just grab a bandage later, it isn't that bad anyway."

Suddenly Ember felt a big flow of pain in the back of her head, it felt like the same pain from earlier, but in a rush a memory came flooding in.

"Ember, my- my name is Ember!" Ember's face lighted up as she finally remembered her name, and something filled up inside of her, the void wasn't so deep as she had thought.

Maybe there was still hope to get rid of that void.
