"We must be close guys," I say.
"I don't think so," Asher had said quickly. "It's getting dark. We better camp. It's better to look in the morning."
"Alright," I reply with my paw over my face to block the bright sun that is setting. Eventually, we found a small cave near where the mountain lion fell in the hole. I lay down next to Asher with Piper in the corner. She looks at me and gives an evil smirk.
"Let it go. I don't like him!" I mouth to her.
"Yeah, you do," Piper says aloud and laughs.
Grr...I hate it when she does that.
...
The next morning, we hunt for food. Piper caught a mouse, and Asher caught an elk. I didn't seem to catch anything.
"Wow Asher, you're good at hunting!" Says Piper.
He nodded his head, and sat down trying to look cool. I just rolled my eyes and smiled. Piper ate her mouse, and Asher ate half of his elk.
"Do you want some?" Asher looked at me.
"No thanks," I say. "I'm not hungry."
"Come on, I know you want some!" He smiled and had a sparkle in his eyes. Just looking at the elk made my mouth water.
"Oh alright." I smile. He nudged the carcass over to me and I ate it in a matter of seconds.
"Thank you," I say. "That filled me up."
"No problem," said Asher. "Lucky I asked you." We both laughed.
"Hey Nyla, how's your leg?" Piper asked. I had totally forgot about it.
"Great! Actually," I say looking at my leg. There is only a faint scar left. Piper just nodded and smiled.
The hours just turn into long days. We were almost at the top of the mountain, and we couldn't see the forest anymore.. The beautiful view turned into dark, grey fog with falling snow. As we were trudging through the snow, Asher and Piper stuck their tongues out to catch the cold snowflakes.
"What are you guys doing?" I finally ask at one point.
"The snow tastes good," Piper giggled. I laughed and trudged on again. Then I managed to stick my tongue out a little. A small snowflake fell on it. Piper was right.
Asher stuck his nose in the air, and sniffed repeatedly. "We're here."
I was so happy I could howl. "Really!? Where is it!?" I ran around them.
He looked around and pointed at a lake that I hadn't noticed was in front of us.
Why was there a lake up on top of a mountain? Eh.. Whatever.
"It's under the lake," said Asher. I can see Piper is confused already.
"The lake water is "breathable","Asher continued.
"Oh. So shall we head in?" I ask nervously.
"We shall," Piper and Asher said in unison. Two steps away from the lake when,
"You shan't go," A deep male voice said in aggression. The wolf was on top of a pile of ice.
We looked at the wolf in fear. It was Blake. Commander of the BloodFur Pack. He was covered in dirt and had patches of fur ripped from his skin. Blake jumped from the pile of ice and stained the white snow from the dirt. He stared at me next.
"You killed my best guard!" He yelled. "And you are going to pay!"
Piper backed up, Asher growled, and I stood there confused.
"Wait, how did you get up here? And why do you look like that?" I ask.
"There was a cat.. That came out of a hole and terrorized me. I eventually killed it.." says Blake. He walks over to me woozily, like a blob of jelly. It looked like he was going to fall over.
"Oh," As I say, Blake raises his paw and attempts to hit me but Asher pins him down.
"Asher, I can handle this," I suddenly say. Asher lets go of him and Blake gets up. When he fully gets up, I dig my claws into his neck and slam him into an icy hills wall. When he hits the wall hard, a boulder at the top of the hill falls down onto him.
"AH!" Blake howls before he gets crushed. His paw was hanging out from under the boulder.
"Well, that's the end of him," I say as I look at Piper who is covering her eyes.
"You can open them," I say louder and I clear my throat. Piper opens them cautiously.Asher then points at the water. "Follow me," he says as he walks into the lake. Me and Piper did as he said. I held my breath following Asher deeper and deeper into the lake. I don't even know why I'm going this deep without air. Before I know it, I'm scrambling for air, but I couldn't get to the surface. All I see is navy blue darkness around me.
I can breathe.
