Chatting with Piper, Asher came up from my side and nudged me.
Piper smiled briefly. "I'll leave you too alone..." She slinked away, obviously wanting to chat with my mother.
"What do you need?" I asked, tilting my head.
It took him a moment as he sucked in more air. His jaw was agape, like he wanted to say something but nothing would come out. Like the words were lodged in the back of his throat. "I just wanted to say thank you, Nyla," Asher then said quietly.
"Oh, of course, Asher! Not a problem at all." I grinned at him and sat down in front of the Healer's Den.
"No, I mean...for everything." He turned to the large group of wolves swarming around joyfully, then back to me. "For letting me company you on the journey to DarkWater Cave. It was a real adventure." He suddenly smiled, and went to hug me.
It was so quick, I didn't know what was happening. So I smiled back briefly, and nuzzled into his thick grey pelt. "Not a problem at all."
He broke apart and looked into my eyes for a moment. "I-" Asher was cut off by a bunch of howls in the distance, seemingly coming from across the border.
Everybody's ears had perked up, and the chatter and barks went silent as they went to hear the howls. They started to get closer, and my heart dropped.
What was happening?!
Now, the ground started to rumble. Hair standing up on end, I would run up to the group of wolves.
My mother whispered to me, "Nyla! What's happening? Is it one of those quakes that shake the ground that we live on?" Her eyes were locked onto the terrain that was shaking the slightest. Even though it was small, the vibrations would creep up our legs.
"I-I don't know..." I replied, head swivelling around to find Asher and Piper.
Finding Piper, she'd run into her Healer's Den, her bushy black tail sticking out and shaking like a leaf. And finding Asher, he'd stand with his eyes wide open and looking over to the border. The fence. His jaw was agape once again, and his tail hung between his hind legs...like he knew what was happening.
"I'll be right back, Mom," I said and trotted over to Asher, eyes still glued on the barbed fence a distance away. He didn't even notice that I had come to stand beside him.
He looks like a pup whose older brother just scared the life out of him.
"You alright?!" I pushed his side to wake him out of his trance.
The words were cut off in his throat again. "They're finally coming..." He said barely audible to my ears, which were now totally turned towards him.
"Asher? What do you mean?" I questioned, my heart racing to the thumping sound that was getting closer. Dust came from under the barbed wire by now.
And before he could finish, a bunch of hungry, large wolves burst through the barbed wire, smashing it to pieces. Running towards our group, they would bark viciously, saliva hanging from their mouths.
My pupils constricted and I looked towards Asher, who was still in his original state.
"Blake's pack."
(( I FINALLY CAME UP WITH SOMETHING! -Small hooray.- Now I'll be finishing the story. Sorry for the long wait! ;-; ))
