Me and Asher stood there for a moment and watched the large wolves trot towards our own pack. Hungry. They were hungry for blood and death.

Everyone in our pack ran back, and there was a straggler who got caught by one of Blake's wolves. I guess my packmate couldn't defend his or herself, because with a blink of an eyelid, they were deceased.

Blood spewed out of the small wolf's neck, and their body lay motionless against the dusty ground. It made my heart stop, and I looked toward Asher.

He was gone already.

My head swivelled around to find Piper and Asher, but I couldn't find both of them. And once again, one of the enemy wolves pinned me down, trying to wrap its jaws around my own neck.

She had a lighter pelt colour like me, and dark eyes that were practically slits. She snarled into my face, and her saliva dripped onto my pelt and quickly dried away.

I gave her a look and struggled to get out of her grasp. I let out a growl myself.

Asher couldn't save me now, or anyone. Only I could defend myself.

And through fear and doubt, I attempted to claw her face, but missed. The female's paw pressed into my stomach, and I wheezed for air.

She spat in my face, "For Blake." Most of the large wolves howled along with the female. I could've assumed this female was Blake's mate, because she was the most enthusiastic about getting revenge.

Once she howled, I took it as an opportunity. I pushed her off with all my might, and hissed. She seemed unaware.

My back hair ruffled and stood up, and we both circled each other, snarling. But, I heard a scream.

My mother.

She was being thrown by a large male across the terrain. Her small, fragile body being pushed. Shoved.

In an instinct, I trotted quickly over to her. "Mom!" I barked.

"Nyla...!" She called back weakly as she tried to get up from the ground, but the male pinned her down again.

I couldn't pay attention to the chaos around me. All these wolves being slaughtered, and little fleeing the area alive. I couldn't worry about Asher or Piper. Just my mother.

Before I could reach her and the large wolf, the female latched onto my tail and pulled me towards her. "No!" I whimpered as I looked away.

"You're not going anywhere!" The large female growled, and I quickly bit her muzzle. She screeched and backed away.

And suddenly, a flash of blue and purple fell into my field of vision and leaped onto the enemy wolf. Before I knew it, Blake's comrade was deceased.

But my eyes averted to my mother, who had the exact same fate.
