I just keep running until I am eventually half way up the mountain. I wonder if Asher is alright. I finally stop to catch my breath. "What happened back there.." I say to myself.
"Hey Nyla!" A voice that sounded almost just like Piper's.
"Huh?" I see Piper behind a big rock, "Piper??"
"Yeah!" She squealed with joy.
"But how?? How did you get up here and how did you find me?" I stood there blinking my eyes as I was walking up to her. As I get close to her, she disappears.
"What?" I say looking around. I must have been hallucinating from the heat and non stop running. Just looking at the sun could make anyone's eyes burn. Luckily there was small den nearby.
Unfortunately, being in the den made me feel even more guilty. Disobeying my mother, leaving Piper, and leaving Asher with those horrible wolves. Maybe I should go back to Meadow National Park?
No.
I'm going to save Asher and see if he's alright. I get up steadily off the ground, and trudge down the mountain. Again.
When I finally reach the bottom to where I thought the Aqua Wolf's cave was, I see bits of blood and fur. The sight makes my stomach churn as I head over to the cave. The cave is dark and gloomy. All I hear are the sounds of echoes.
"I wonder if Asher is in here.." I enter the cave slowly and cautiously. Suddenly, I see a silhouette coming out of the den. Quickly, I find a rock to hide behind. This time I got a good glimpse of the strange wolf who had pinned me down.
The wolf had yellow and brown fur, sharp teeth (he yawned when he walked past me), and little beady eyes. Very large and strong too.
Hm. I wonder what pack they are in..
After the tough wolf walked by, I swiftly sprinted by to see if Asher is around.
As I walk farther into the cave, I start to hear voices. All of these voices sound masculine... I don't think there are any females in this pack..
"Asher is in the dungeon.. Keep an eye on him," A male voice said. That's when I started leaping with joy to hear that he's alive.
"Alright, Blake, sir!" Another male wolf said. I start following the voices to see where it came from. I turned around to see if anybody was near, but I saw a skinned wolf that was burnt hanging on the wall! I keep moving in disgust.
Who would do that..
I stop when I am up on a ledge near the "dungeon". I see Asher in this cage thing that humans use. I crouch listening to their conversation.
"Asher," The wolf who is named Blake said.
"What?" Asher said weakly. It looked like he had been beat up real bad.
"You know why you are here. You have stolen most of our food, and I know that you still have some of it. Give it back," Blake demanded.
"No.. You have most of the food in these areas. I had no other choice. Food is scarce here!" Asher said.
"Well if you aren't going to give it back," Blake had started pacing, "We will find your little girly there and kill her!" I gasped quietly.
"No no! Please! I will give back your food! Just don't hurt her!" Asher pleaded.
"Fine. After you are let out of the dungeon, then you give back our food.. This is your penalty for doing this to the BloodFur Pack." Blake walked away.
BloodFur Pack.. I can see why my pack mates would never let us over the border. When the Guard wolf was looking the other way, I tiptoed by him.
"Nyla," Asher said quietly, "Why did you come? You shouldn't be here.."
"No I've come to rescue you. On the count of three, run and don't stop until you reach the end of the cave." I whisper. "One..," I open the lock, "Two..," I get ready to run, " THREE!!"
The cage door bursts open when Asher runs by. He's a fast wolf. Again, I am trailing behind him and that Guard wolf trailing behind me, snarling. "We are almost there Asher!"
Asher pants. We reach the end of the cave and started running up the mountain until The Guard wolf bit my leg. "Asher!" I whimper. Asher just slid down down the mountain slowly, trying not to hurt himself. Then, a wave of adrenaline came over me. I had kicked the Guard wolf to the side, pinned him down and tried pushing him over to the edge. He bit my front paw, and leg again, but I kept snarling at him. He stopped growling when I had pushed him over the cliff. I watch him tumble down to death. Laying there.
I just sit there, looking over the edge, panting. Asher sits beside me.
"I never knew that I could do that," I giggle.
"That was pretty cool," He says while he helps me off the ground. "Whoa, look at your leg!" He says fairly loud.
I look at it, which is bleeding, "Oh, it's nothing. I'll show you where that small den is. We can rest there."
Then we hear a yell come from the cave we had just escaped from, "Asher, I will find you!! And your girly too!"
"Yeah, we should go.." He tries to help me get up the mountain fast.
He's pretty sweet too.
We rested for days once we got to the small den.. Asher was getting better, but I wasn't healing that well. The bone-shattering pain would come only at night, and Asher cuddled me to sleep to make me feel better. Since he got better, he would go catch rabbits and mice for us to eat.
"Asher, do you think we will ever find the Aqua Wolf?" I say when I finish eating half of my rabbit.
He choked on his a little, "We can you know.. We are so close."
"Yeah well then, we should probably get going. We are wasting too much time. We could've been there a few days ago," I say, struggling to get up and putting my weight on one hind leg. "Let's go." I start to limp out of the cave, this time, with Asher trailing behind me.
