"What do you mean Grillby can't open the bar?" You ask, abruptly leaning forward. The Mayor sighs, leaning back in her seat, pulling her coffee closer.

You and the Mayor were sitting in a small café, having a lazy Sunday meeting. it was the closest thing she could get you to agree to, since you refused to go to the Mayor's office to discuss further plans and designs for the monster-friendly city. It made you feel you had to be professional and have an air of neutrality. It was hard to have to act like debating about the lives of monsters and humans living together didn't directly affect you. At least this way it felt like you could be honest with yourself and give your honest opinion without feeling like you had to censor your thoughts. That and this way the Major could easily take a pinch of salt with the ideas you had without feeling she had to document each and every one.

"Monsters have been given ample time and routes to pursue the idea of opening or continuing their business on the surface if they'd so please." The Mayor starts, then you see her brow twitch and the air of her title drops as she leans in, as if giving you a secret. "But the ABC agency and TTB don't feel right giving a fire elemental a liquor license. Grillby's gotten his EIN with no issue and he just obtained his food service license but even that took a few string pulls-"

"His magic doesn't work that way though." You hiss back. "It's not like he's just walking around lighting dry grass on fire under his feet! There has to be intent, like all magic." You sigh, rubbing a hand over your eyes.

"You know that I know that." She reassures. "But the concept of magic is still new." Her brow twitched again. "The concept of being decent to people wanting to live in the states seems to be new too, every single time it's occurred." The Major purses her lips before sighing and leaning back again, nursing her coffee. "I'm sorry. Until the ABC and TTB, or really the Government in a whole, make a move to understand monster kind on a deeper level than "nice monsters", I don't know when Grillby, or many monsters like him, will be able to start having more opportunities."

"Isn't there anything we can do? Grillby's bar was a staple in the underground. It's basically a piece of their home they're missing." The wring your hands together. "First they tried gate keeping Toriel from school and now this. Can't one of them just come over here and actually study the monsters? Or try and contact Alphys?"

"One of who?" The Major asks, a small smile cracking. The look changes to something contemplative and she sits up. "Having negotiations and meetings with the Ambassador is one thing, but Frisk can't offer up the same discussions and information that Alphys, the royal scientist, could." You could see the gears churning in the Mayors head. "I need to make some calls." She abruptly stands, sliding a few bills to the center of the table. She rushes past you, your call being ignored. However she suddenly stops at the Cafe door and spins around to beam at you. "You're always so inspiring."

Then the Mayor's gone.

You sit a moment more before taking out your phone and deciding to call up a certain skeleton to ask what his plans were. You were in the mood for a good burger and fries.
