Caitlyn's POV
I ride my scooter to Jenna's house and have her do my hair and makeup since I don't have, nor will I ever want a curling iron or makeup. I can't stop blinking when she's doing my makeup because it feels like someone is painting my face with a feather.
"Hold still" Jenna groans and continues to paint my face "so are you excited?"
"Yeah" I lie. Why should I be? I'm going to the house of a boy who hates me to meet his parents who will probably hate me, like what have I gotten myself into? I mean I look ugly in this dress, Zach said so himself, and I've never worn makeup in my life so I'll probably look like a clown.
Jenna finishes my makeup and let's me see myself in the mirror. My predictions were correct, I look like Bozo the Clown. The lipstick is bright red and the eyeshadow is black and grey. My hair doesn't look half bad though, it's in neat large curls, Jenna spent an hour scrubbing my head with shampoo and now it smells like a garden instead of dirt and smoke.
"Is he coming to pick you up?" Jenna says
"No I'm riding my scooter over"
"And messing up my hard work?" Jenna says "I'll drop you off."
Zach's large yellow house comes into view and my stomach immediately knots, I want to tell Jenna to turn around but I can't bail now. I get out and try and walk in these murderers of the feet that they call heels. I make it to the front door and ring the doorbell. Zach opens the door and his eyes go wide when he sees me. I can feel my cheeks heat up but try my best to hide it.
He finally snaps back to reality and opens the door wider, allowing me to walk inside. Even in these heels he's still a couple inches taller than me. He's wearing a grey long sleeve shirt that hugs his chest and black jeans that ripple at the ankles. The house looks different when it's not filled with drunk teenagers, the floor is polished the couches are pushed up against the walls instead of in the middle of the room and you can actually walk without stepping on food or toes.
I follow Zach into the dining room where Kiera and his Dad are.
"Hi Caitlyn" Kiera says
"Hi Kiera" I smile and turn to Mr. Mitchell "Hi Mr. Mitchell I'm Caitlyn, Zach's uhm girlfriend " I'm going to throw up. Mr. Mitchell smiles and extends his hand "Nice to meet you, you can call me Martin"
I nod and take a seat next to Zach who hasn't stopped looking at me since I walked in. Mrs. Mitchell walks in with a trays of food consisting of sliders, mashed potatoes, salad, fries, and chicken.
"So Caitlyn, You're on the football team" Martin says. All heads shoot up giving him warning glances.
"uhm yeah, I am" I nod
"Your dad, he's Allan Cormier?"
"Yeah, he is"
"And your mom?"
What mom? My mom left me when I was 8 months old so I never knew her, all I know is that her name was Beverly and she was an alcoholic so I was better off without her. "My mom left me when I was still a baby"
"Sorry to hear that" Mrs. Mitchell says
"So who do you live with?" Martin asks
"My grandmother."
"What part of town do you live on?"
"Rowan Oaks and Fairfields." I say an the table goes silent. Everyone in town knows the Rowan Oaks and Fairfields is the poorer side of town which consists of run down tenant buildings and trailer parks.
