Zach's POV

"Can't you just skip practice for one day" Amanda says, biting her bottom lip. I almost rip her clothes off her right in the middle of the hallway but I take a deep breath and sigh "No can do, I'm captain this year" I wink and back away. She sticks up the middle finger and I laugh and stick it back.

"She's Allan Cormier's kid" JJ says

"Who?" I ask

"The new girl Caitlyn, her dad was Allan Cormier wide recie-"

"I know who he is JJ" I say and run my hands through my hair. I can't believe that the board of athletics approved her to be on the team, she's a girl and girls can't play she'll just be a distraction. I put on my pads and practice jersey before pouring water over my head to flatten my hair. I get to the field before anyone in the locker room and notice Temporary on the field already.

"For a girl I get ready much faster than you" she winks and kicks the ball. I roll my eyes and tie my shoes just as coach walks out from his office. "It's good to see someone can get out here on time" he yells and whistles for the boys to get out here.

"Mitchell I want you to get Cormier ready for the game this Friday, she's taking Chester's position"

"Wide receiver! Coach are you nuts"

Coach narrows his eyes and points a finger at me "I said have her ready for the game, she's our new wide receiver." I watch as Temporary kicks the ball and it goes flying across the field, maybe she isn't temporary. At that thought I shove my helmet on and jog out to the field to start off conditioning.

"blue 90!" I yell "blue 90 set!" I grab the ball as it gets launched towards me. I look around for people to throw it too and notice Temporary is wide open. I lock eyes with her and at the last second before getting sacked I throw it to Sean who gets sacked immediately after he catches.

Temporary rips her helmet off and storms up to me "you know damn well I could've made that" she barks "I honestly don't give a shit if you like me or not just throw me the damn ball"

"I can throw to whoever I want Temporary, so chill"

"Mitchell!" Coach yells "Cormier was wide opened"

I pretend to look confused "sorry coach, I didn't see her."

Caitlyn mumbles under her breath and storms away to take her position for the next play. There is no chance in hell that I'm passing to her today or at Friday's game.

I start putting my stuff into my truck when Coach calls me over "I see what you're doing Mitchell and I don't like it" he whispers, which is a little scary for coach because he never talks below a yell. "Tomorrow's the last practice before the first game of the season and I don't want to lose this season, and that girl is just what this team needs." I roll my eyes at how sure Coach is about Temporary, she's not bad obviously but everyone talks about her like she's some legend herself. "Oh you want to roll your eyes now huh?" Coach says

"No coach"

"Is this sport a joke to you? Because I can call Oregon and tell the scout not to come, that he'd be wasting his time because there's no real talent here." He says "since you like jokes here's something to laugh about, pass to Cormier or your sitting out Friday's game." Coach walks away laughing, turning back occasionally only to double over in laughter once again.

"Zachary! Dinner" mom yells. I walk into the dining room and take my seat across from my little sister Kiera. I take the plate piled high with drumsticks and put six of them on my plate.

"That's disgusting" Kiera scoffs. Kiera's some save the animals enthusiast. She won't touch anything that comes from an animal, so she resorts to eating different assortments of bread and butter almost every night. Dad hates the whole vegetarian thing, he always says "when people were starving back then they'd eat whatever they could find so you should be thankful to have this food." Somehow she got mom in on it even though mom takes dad's side all the time. Every night after dinner mom will make her a salad or drive her to Panera Bread.
