Caitlyn's POV
"Sweetheart can you come here" Grandma calls
"Yeah?"
"Uhm my nurse has suggested that I go live at an assistant living home, you know since it's your last year of high school and I'll be on my own next year."
Grandma and I have lived together my entire life but I can't keep her from going off to a nursing home because they can give her better food and shelter than this intoxicating trailer park.
"Oh Grandma I think you should go, it would be good for you" I smile
"Great I'll tell my nurse" she says and wheels herself into her room.
Since I'm eighteen I don't have to be put in some Foster home of something, I can stay here in my rusty old trailer. At least now that Grandma's leaving I only have to provide for myself, I eat at work and the water only costs about a hundred so I'd be saving a ton of money.
Grandma's nurse tells her that she'll be leaving Sunday morning to a nursing home on the other side of town, so I can't basically see her whenever I want.
I hop on my scooter and head to school, we have our homecoming carnival today so all classes are cancelled.
Jenna's waiting for me when I arrive and we go to the sewing room to check on the dresses.
"your dresses should be done no later than noon" Shea says
"Thanks so much for doing this for us" I smile
"No problem, have fun at the carnival."
They just finished setting up when we arrive, they have the spinning teacups, go karts, bumper car, dunk tanks, everything I used to love when I was a kid.
"Sup" Sean walks up to us
"Hey, where is everyone?" I ask
"They're coming, they're getting their jerseys from the locker room."
All football player have to wear our jerseys the day before a game, or else Coach will make you run laps. I never see Coach during the day but he says he's always watching and he will find out.
"Want to get something to eat?" Jenna says and points to the shack they set up. We go and grab fried dough and an ICEE, but since it's the middle of October i can't stop shivering after taking a sip.
The rest of the team joins us at the table we're sitting at, including Zach. Zach and I haven't talked since yesterday in the library and the tension is so thick between us you could take a knife and cut it.
We ride a couple of rides and after an encounter with Blake and Amanda we decide to go in the Haunted Mansion.
I'm terrified of these things, I always end up stopping halfway through and leaving. We walk in and the double doors slam behind us. I scream and cling onto someone next to me. I look up and it's Zach who's looking back down at me. I'm too scared to let go and for whatever reason I feel safer holding onto him. The dim lights go out completely and there's a clap of thunder followed by some lightning a a man dripping in blood appears in front of us. I bury my face in Zach's chest and I feel him wrap his arms around me. We start walking forward and come to a room that looks like a church. There are people kneeling with their heads down and I'm stupid to assume they aren't real. A couple of them stand up and start following us I scream an hold onto Zach as hard as I can. He laughs and we walk into next hallway.
Before we keep go down the hallway he tells me to get on his back and without protest I do so.
I laugh when I see Jenna. Sean's holding her like a baby and she's not even looking she just has her head buried in Sean's chest. We keep walking and we are in this room with Knight Armor and swords. We start walking down the hall but stop when we hear something creek. I look over my shoulder and notice the Knights are moving "holy shit!" I scream and we all start running into the next hallway.
The next hallway has ventriloquist dolls hung up all over the walls. At the end of the hallway there is a little girl dripping in blood, her dress is dirty and torn and her blonde hair is in two pigtails.
"You can't leave" she whispers just loud enough for us to hear "no way out."
This haunted mansion is scarier than any I've been to ever.
"You can stay with me" she whispers
"Zach run!" I scream
"You can't leave!" The girl yells, her voice is now deep like a demon. We run through a door and we are outside. It's finally thank the lord, I couldn't have survived another hallway.
We spend the rest of the day eating and playing carnival games. Jenna and I go get our dress and they turn out better than I could've ever imagined.
We find the guys in the parking lot laughing about something I couldn't care less about.
"Where's everyone going?" Jenna asks
"My house" Zach says "you guys in?"
"I'll pass" I say and head for my scooter. If he thinks I forgot about yesterday he's sadly mistaken.
"Caitlyn!" he calls after me
"Don't you mean Temporary?"
"look I'm sorry about messing up your stupid date"
"It's not my stupid date that I'm mad about"
He grabs my arm and spins me around so I'm face to face with him "then what are you mad about."
"I'm mad that you would mess up my date and then show up to lunch with your's, acting like you did nothing wrong"
"I'm sorry I screwed up your date and I'm sorry I brought mine, but-"
"But what?" I snap
"JJ told me you didn't even want to go with Nathan"
"That doesn't make it right!" I yell
"I'm going to ask you something, and you're going to answer me. Truthfully." He sighs "did you want to go with me?"
I could feel my eyes go soft and he knew it too. I clench my jaw and stick my key into the ignition before hopping on and speeding off.
Truthfully? Yes.
