"All she said was she wanted to interview me." Alyssa explained as she trekked into Bonnie's house, the group following behind.
"About Annalise?" Bonnie asked, and she shrugged.
"How am I supposed to know? And I told her I'd be there by two."
The others gazed at her with incredulous looks.
"You shouldn't have said that!" Asher snapped.
Alyssa flailed her arms in the air. "I thought it would look suspicious if I didn't! Guys, I know how to handle the police, remember? I'm not new to this."
"We know that." Connor said to her softly before turning to Bonnie. "She should get a lawyer, right?"
Michaela shook her head sharply. "What kind of lawyer can we get in two hours?"
"We can just hide her from the police like Annalise did to Wes." Asher suggested, and she glanced at him like he was insane.
Connor chuckled bitterly. "Look how that worked out for him. They must know that she hacked the D.A."
"I put up firewalls. There's no way." She objected, crossing her arms over her chest. They could argue all they want, but she wouldn't hesitate to step in if they questioned her abilities.
"Maybe Laurel went to the police." Michaela muttered.
Bonnie intervened. "No, you're being paranoid."
"You didn't see her at the memorial this morning. She lost it. To the point where I wouldn't be surprised if she went to the police and confessed."
Alyssa knew she should let them continue to bicker, but she was growing restless.
"Okay, enough. I'm not proud of this, but I'm a good liar. Just give me a mock interview and we'll be fine."
The others glanced at each other before finally agreeing. They all prepared her to the best of their abilities up until she had to leave. At the station, Alyssa was quickly placed in an interrogation room, stuck to wait for the detective to arrive. Maybe ten minutes passed when Detective Davis finally walked into the room and seated herself at the table. She started off by asking a few basic queries, which Alyssa answered with no hesitation.
Finally, she dove into the hard part. "So it was odd that she called you at eight fifty-two p.m. the night of the fire?"
"She wanted me to do some research."
Alyssa tilted her head slightly, forcing her brows to crease. "Like what?"
"Anything. I just want to know if there was anything else she asked you to do." The detective remarked, her tone hardening. Alyssa licked her lips.
"Wes was my friend, and he was murdered. So forgive me if my mind is a little foggy on some of the details." She willed her eyes to tear up.
"I'm in no rush." Davis shrugged. "Take your time."
Innocently, she said, "Thanks."
The friendliness washed away quickly as not even two seconds later the woman rebooted her inquiries. "I do wanna know why you went back to the legal clinic after talking to Professor Keating at the scene of the fire."
She kept silent as Detective Davis slid a sheet of paper across the table.
"We have records showing that you swiped into the clinic at ten fifty-three p.m. that night. Was it because Professor Keating asked you to do something for her? Clear her phone of suspicious material, for example."
