"They turned black," she whispered.

Sam and Dean both looked at her with wide eyes.

"But, I mean, that's impossible, right?" Riley said when neither brother said anything. "Maybe I just imagined it?"

Sam looked at Dean. The concern on his face made Riley's heart race. "She's definitely a target."

"Yeah, and they're using college kids to get to her," Dean nodded.

"Who's using college kids?" Riley asked nervously. "What the hell is going on?"

"Riley," Sam sighed. "There's something I need to tell you."

"Sam," Dean warned.

"We have to tell her, Dean," Sam exclaimed. "She needs to be prepared if they come back, which they will."

"They might not," Dean argued. "She might be in more danger sticking with us."

"She's staying, Dean," Sam glared at his brother. "At least until I know she's safe."

"Will someone just tell me what the fuck is going on?!" Riley snapped. "Who's coming for me? What do they want with me?"

"We don't know what they want with you," Sam sighed. "Not yet, anyway. As for the first question, it's more of a what than a who."

"Excuse me?" Riley's brows furrowed in confusion.

"Riley, it was a demon who attacked you in the dorm room," Sam said. "You were right when you said Kyle wasn't himself. He was possessed."

"Kyle was possessed by a demon?" Riley raised a brow this time. Great, not only was she losing her mind, but so was Sam. He must be if he believed demons were real. "Good one."

"I know it's hard to believe, but it's true, Riles," Sam sighed. "This is what we do, me, Dean, and Dad."

"You're not a family of mechanics, are you?" Riley said as Sam's words finally started to sink in.

Sam shook his head. "We're hunters. We hunt the kinds of creatures most people don't even realise really exist."

"Well, we don't do demons usually, but they're real," Dean said.

Riley scoffed a laugh, but as she looked between the brothers again, she realised that they were being serious. "Wait. You're telling me that a real demon is after me?"

Sam nodded his head. "That's what killed Jess."

Riley sucked in a sharp breath. "So, I'm going to die just like Jess did?"

"No. We won't let that happen, I promise," Sam insisted. "That's why you're staying with us, so we can keep you safe."

"Consider us your personal bodyguards. Or whatever helps you get over it. Preferably sooner rather than later," Dean shrugged.

"Well then," Riley glared at Dean. "I guess you guys are stuck babysitting me then."

Dean glared back at her, and Sam looked embarrassed. Riley turned away from them and headed to the bathroom. She grabbed her bag off the bed as she passed and slammed the bathroom door behind her. She angrily turned the lock and started up the shower. Then she stripped off her clothes and stepped into the stream of hot water. As the water ran down her body, Riley felt the stress and tensions ease a little too. She quickly washed her hair and body and rinsed off before turning off the water and stepping out. She wrapped a towel around herself as she quickly towel dried her hair. She dug out some clean clothes and dried herself off before getting dressed.
