*Riley POV.*
With the laptop open in front of her, Riley scoured the internet for any information she could find on their current case. Morton Mansion was their destination. Riley read an article that explained how once every four years, Morton Mansion became the most haunted house in America. Across the room, Dean laid on one of the beds, lazily surfing through the limited channels on the small TV, while Sam showered.
"How's it going over there?"
Riley looked up at the sound of Dean's voice. His gaze was still firmly on the TV.
"Uh, there's nothing here we don't already know," Riley sighed.
Dean turned off the TV, dropping the remote on the bed beside him. He rolled off, stretching as he stood up. "You hungry?"
"No, I'm okay," Riley shook her head. "I wouldn't say no to a beer, though."
"I'll go get some. I need to get out of this room," Dean said, pulling his jacket on.
"Okay."
"You.. Uh.. you sure you don't want anything else?" Dean asked.
"I'm sure," Riley smiled softly. "Thanks."
Dean nodded his head before quickly walking out the door. Once the door shut, Riley released a sigh and dropped her head into her hands. Being so close to Dean and not actually being able to be with him was slowly destroying her. She lifted her head and stared at the screen until her vision blurred.
The bathroom door opened, and Sam walked out, followed by a cloud of steam. He glanced around the room as he scrubbed his hair dry with a towel.
"Where's Dean?"
"Food and beer run," Riley said, keeping her eyes on the screen.
"You okay?" Sam asked, walking towards her.
"Yeah, I'm good," Riley nodded, even though she felt anything but.
"You sure?" Sam stood opposite her.
Riley finally tore her eyes from the screen and looked up at her best friend. "I miss him, Sam."
Sam sighed and sat down in the chair. He reached across the table, gripping her hand in his. "He hasn't gone anywhere yet, Riles. He's still here."
"I know, I know," Riley groaned. She ran a hand through her hair. "I just.. I don't know. Part of me wants to just say screw it, you know? Just get back together and screw the consequences."
Sam nodded in understanding. "So, get back together then."
"But what if that screws up my deal, Sam? What if us getting back together is just a death sentence for him?"
"Riles, you know I love you, you're my best friend. But, Dean's my big brother. I've known him my whole life. And I have never, ever, seen him like this. Hell, I don't think he's ever been in love like this before. So I know, without a doubt, that something like going to hell isn't going to stop him. If you let him, he'll love you for the rest of his life."
A tear slid down Riley's cheek as she considered Sam's words. "The rest of his life is a few weeks, Sam."
"Then don't waste those few weeks. Let him go out with the woman he loves by his side," Sam smiled softly. "Just talk to him."
A single tear slid down her cheek, but she quickly wiped it away. She nodded her head. Sam squeezed her hand before leaving the table and heading over to the bed. He laid down on it, turning on the TV and flicking through the channels, just like Dean had done.
