Chapter 7:

(This is part two of chapter 6)

After me and Benny had both showered we lay in bed watching tv, neither of us wanted to speak first, but I took one for the team. "Eric can't know you were here, okay?"
"Of course, what time will he be back tomorrow?" He looked over at me.
"I'm not sure," I said , looking back, "I'll just have to pretend you came over in the morning"
"Okay" he smiled.
We both carried on watching the tv, when we heard a noise downstairs, I looked over at Benny confused.
"Did you hear that?" I whispered.
"Yeah, do you want me to go and check?"
"No, what if it's Eric and Donna and they're home early?" Panic started to kick in.
"What are we gonna do?" He asked.
"I'll go and check" I said, "it's more than likely Eric and Donna"
"Ok, be careful"
I smiled, and made my way downstairs. I was right. Eric and Donna were sat watching tv and eating pizza on the couch.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked.
"We changed our minds, we're staying here tonight" Eric said with his mouthful and without looking away from the tv screen.
"Okay, fair enough." I started to think about what Benny was going to do.
"Who were you talking to upstairs Melina?" He said moving moving his attention from the tv to me.
"Oh um, I was just on the phone to Ivy." I lied through my teeth.
"Oh, weird, I thought I heard Benny?" He gave me the look that said "I know you're lying". Over the years we had become experts at reading each other, so I knew I wasn't mistaken about the look he gave me. I stood still trying to think of what to say, I was usually good at thinking on my feet, but not today apparently.
"Yeah, weird" was all I could blurt out.
"He's not staying" He seemed adamant.
I huffed and folded my arms, "how is that fair, you're with Donna?"
"I'm older than you, it's my decision."
"You're not my dad, Eric."
"Next best thing Melina"
I muttered under my breath and stomped up the stairs and when I got to my room, I slammed the door behind me. I went and sat on the bed next to Benny.
"He says you can't stay." I said bluntly, still in a mood.
"Hey, don't be so bummed out, I'll walk you to school tomorrow, and you can come to my house after" He said whilst stroking the hair behind my ear.
I half smiled, "yeah okay"
He leaned in and kissed me before getting his stuff ready to leave. We walked downstairs , luckily the living room door was shut, so we didn't have to face my brother. When we got to the door he turned around and put his hands around my waist and I put mine over his shoulders. He lifted me up so that I was straddling him and we made out for as long as we could before he had to go. We broke the kiss and held each other for a moment before he put me down and opened the door.
"I'll see you tomorrow" he said before kissing me on the forehead.
"Bye Benny" I smiled.
I closed the door and ran upstairs to my window and watched him into his house. I sat back on my bed and started watching the outsiders. The next thing I knew I was waking up to the sound of knocking at the door. I was confused and checked my clock, it read "8:30" . I was wearing Eric's old band t-shit and I looked a mess. I ran downstairs to answer the door, not knowing what to expect.
I opened the door and it took my eyes a while for my eyes to adjust until I could finally make out that there were 3 people there. Benny, Ivanna and Marcus. My face turned red as I realised what I looked like.
"Mel, aren't you ready" Ivy said, giggling.
"For what?" I still felt like I was dreaming.
"School dummy" Benny smirked.
"Fuck" I ran upstairs and started to frantically get ready. Brushing my teeth, washing my face and doing my hair, all in the space of 5 minutes. I threw on a cropped AC/DC T-shirt , blue denim shorts and black converse. I ran downstairs to find everyone in the kitchen.
"You took your time" Benny laughed. I gave him a death stare and walked out the door. I was in a bad mood, every little thing was annoying me and I wasn't even 100% sure why. Maybe it was because it was early in the morning or maybe I was coming on my period or something, but whatever it was, it wasn't budging.
I was walking ahead of everyone else for a few minutes until Benny caught up with me. I looked over at him and half smiled, he knew it wasn't ss cure but I didn't want him to think that I was specifically mad at him, because I wasn't.
He put his arm over my shoulder, "what's wrong?"
I leaned my head onto his chest, "I don't know, I'm just in a bad mood I guess"
School came into view which made me sigh.
Benny kissed the top of my head softly, "Its not that bad Mel"
I looked up at him, " Maybe not for you." Truth is, I hate school, I'm not good at it and I don't like most of the people there, it's a drag. We got to the gates and Benny kissed me goodbye as me and Ivy walked to our fist class. We had Math, ew.
Danielle and Rosy sat directly behind me and Ivy. I was minding my business when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Ew. I reluctantly turned around to see the horse faced bitch.
"What?" I said annoyed. Her face was still bruised and cut up from the other day. Lol.
"I see your face is still messed up" she said looking at my lip, which was in fact, still busted 😞
"Are you kidding?" I laughed "it's nothing compared to yours"
"At least I look good with it" she said smugly.
"Highly debatable." Ivy joined in.
"Settle down" Mr Reynolds said.
At lunch
Honestly the day had just dragged on. Me and Ivy sat down at a table with some other girls who we were friends with . Benny and Marcus sat with some other guys a few tables away. They looked over and smiled, which we did too. I was talking to a girl on the table about our science homework , when I felt Ivanna nudge me , "Mel"
"Just a second Ivy." I said , irritated that she had just interrupted me.
"No, Melina , look" She persisted.
I gave in and turned around and looked at what she was looking at. Danielle had sat next to Benny and Rosy had sat next to Marcus. They all seemed to be in a conversation with each other and every once in a while the girls would look us up and down.  After a while they stood up and walked past me and Ivy, making sure to give us dirty looks as they did so. Me and Ivy looked at each other confused.
After school
We met the guys after school and started walking.
"Do you guys wanna go to the diner?" Marcus suggested. We all agreed and started walking in that direction.
"Hey," I looked over at Benny , who was holding my hand, "what were you and Danielle talking about at lunch."
"Nothing interesting."
" Tell me, Benny"  I said concerned.
He sighed in defeat, " She asked me if I wanted to go out with her tonight, I didn't wanna upset you because I knew that you were already having a bad day."
"What did you say?" I asked, shocked.
"What do you think I said Melina?" He laughed. I stopped walking and shrugged. "I said no thanks, I have a girlfriend" He turned to face me.
"Hm, good" I smiled smugly and carried on walking. He laughed and looked at the ground. "And what did she say after that?"
"It doesn't matter what she said."
"Yes it does, tell me" I looked him in the eyes.
"She said that I could do better"
"I cant belie-" I started.
"But, " He cut me off, "I told her that was impossible " he pulled me in close with a sort of soft headlock and we walked into the diner and all four of us sat down. We all ordered milkshakes.
"I'm going to the bathroom" Ivy said looking at me as if to say "come with me".
"Uh, yeah, me too" I followed her.
We got into the bathroom and Ivy looked mad.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"I can't believe that Rosy bitch." She said whilst pacing around.
"Yeah I know, I-"
"I mean," she cut me off, (what is up with that today?), "who does she think she is, she asked Marcus to go out with her tonight and when he explained that he had a girlfriend she said that he should let her know when he gets bored and wants someone better."
"Yeah, Danielle pretty much said the same thing about me to Benny," I said trying to comfort her, "they're just jealous of us, they want everything that we have, it's sad."
" I know, let's go back, I just needed to get that off my chest" she said opening the bathroom door by kicking it. I laughed and we went and sat down next to the boys. Our milkshakes were on the table and we drank them whilst talking about school. When we finished we started to walk home.
"Are you still coming to my house?" Benny asked.
I remembered that he said he would take me to his house after school, "Yes, of course."
At Benny's
He held the door open for me and I walked in. A middle aged man was sat on the couch next to Benny's mom watching tv. He looked over and smiled.
"Mel, this is my Dad" Benny introduced me.
"Nice to meet you, Mr Rodriguez." I smiled.
"Call me Mike, you must be the girl Benny keeps talking about" He smiled.
Lizzie laughed, she had her knitting in her hand , " He talks about you all the time."
I  smiled at Benny, who seemed eager to get away.
"Bye" he said to his parent as he ushered me upstairs, I said bye and followed him.
