You Seem Like A Goldfish Guy

"Oh, hey Clay, " I said sitting upright in bed, running my hand down my face to wake myself up from my almost groggy state, "This isn't a bad time I was just about to go to sleep though."

"It's 10:30 over there, why are you going to sleep? Thats so early," he said in question. It was so strange to hear his voice, Dream's voice, on a call with me, and just me. I should get used to it though now that we're friends.

"Okay okay, it's not that early. Besides I just got home from an eventful day and I had an exam earlier so I'm exhausted," I stated simply, then decided to test him, "Why don't you go to sleep at a regular time for once? It's almost 12 for you," I said back with a smug look on my face, forgetting he couldn't see it.

"I'm a grown ass man. I will sleep when I want to, " he said this slowly, then after a pause he added, "fuck off."

I was stunned for a split second but giggled regardless, which warranted a small laugh to come through the phone, tandem with mine. After our laughter faded we were caught up in stillness, me way too tired to care. I decided to break the comfortable silence we had fallen into, "Wait so how did you even get my number?"

"Nick gave it to me. Well I asked for it but same thing I guess."

"Ohhh, I forgot I gave it to him," I said with a pause, "I wouldn't have had I known you were going to ruin my one good chance at sleep."

"I told you I would call you until you picked up, I keep my promises," he defended.

"Wow, how noble of you," I said sarcastically, which gained another small laugh from him.

We fell back into silence, this time Clay was the one to speak first, "Did you want to facetime instead? You can watch me make mac and cheese."

I took in a breath. I would watch him make mac and cheese? How would we even facetime without him showing his face? Almost as if he read my mind he said, "You'd get a private face reveal, " almost to persuade me to say yes, as if I already wasn't going to.

"Seriously?" I asked, genuinely surprised he was that willing to show his face.

Clay laughed, "Yeah. I figured since you're going to be hanging out with Nick he would show you sooner or later, accidental or not. He's the only one of my friends I let see my face," he paused then added, "Well now you too."

I smiled and felt warm and fuzzy at that last bit and responded, "No of course I want to see your face, it just surprised me, that's all. I mean you haven't even shown George."

"Understandable," he said then abruptly hung up on me. I stared at my phone confused for a moment, until it lit up with an incoming facetime call. I checked my face and hair in the little preview screen, turned on my led lights, and nervously answered the call.

When I answered all I saw was his ceiling but still said, "Hey!"

He didn't respond for a second which made me already more nervous, but then the camera shook as he presumably jumped into bed and said, "Sorry I was putting on a shirt. Let's go make mac and cheese," then flipped the camera up towards himself. He smiled at me while I took in his face.

I remembered Clay saying that he looked like some of the fan art he had, but somehow I didn't expect it to be this accurate. He had had a softer jawline and stubble that lined it perfectly contouring his face. His smile was perfect, very full, proud to be showing me this part of himself, which made his cheeks rise high on his face perfectly. His hair was just like the picture he sent me a few days prior, a beautiful shade of dirty blonde, in a length that sat just above his ears.

And his eyes. Breathtaking to say the least. A rare shade of green that appeared to be an emerald color, with browns mixed in to contrast. He was handsome, very handsome. I guess I was staring at him for a bit too long because he interrupted my gaze by saying, "What? Do I have something on my face?"
