"Can't believe you got detention on your first day here. You beat my record for fastest time to get detention" The girl with red hair said.
"Look, it's not my fault that that sorry excuse of a teacher started doing that shit. I had enough of that disgusting behavior from adults when I lived in Korea."
Hold up. Pause.
My name is Lane Ahn. I'm a transfer student from South Korea. I had to leave because of my family's work. It sucks but it's life I guess. My parents refused to send me to the public school here in the city of Rygal, so I got sent to the prestigious Rygal High private school. Yep, prestigious and private.
Rygal is...let's say a wealthy city. A city where money and names go hand in hand. Honestly, stepping into the school just to turn in the enrollment papers made me shutter by how...rich it felt. I bet the carpets are worth ten times more than my life.
Anyway, I'm apparently one of the few who made it into the school through test scores and scholarships alone so all eyes are going to be on me. It's a good thing that I absolutely love attention and crave it all the time.
That was sarcasm.
Anyway, continuing with the story.
"I had enough of that disgusting shit in Korea." I said looking down at the desk I was sitting in.
"What did you do anyway?" the red haired girl asked.
"I was sent to detention for blowing up on a perverted teacher. He knocked down a girl's pencil 'on accident' and tried to look down her clothes. Naturally, I called that shit out. Yelled and told him that's disgusting and he should be fired. And naturally, me being the new kid who's parents won't be funneling hundreds of dollars into the school, got sent here." I said, now propping my head in my hand and sighing.
"Ahh yes. The act of being a decent person in this school." The girl smiled while looking up, but it quickly turned into a frown. "That doesn't work here. Everyone here doesn't care about the person next to them or across from them. They only care about wealth and status around here. But what you did was pretty admirable." I scoffed. She looked at me confused.
"Yeah right. I'm sure everyone was thinking it. Apparently I was the only one who wanted to say anything. Why are you in here?" I looked at the clock. 30 minutes left.
"I was being a 'disturbance to the learning environment'." She said with air quotes. I looked at the girl and got a more closer look of her face. She had long red hair and green eyes. She wore the school's uniform but it was very sloppy. The tie was loose, the last couple buttons of the shirt was undone, and the blazer semi-wrinkly. She even wore black combat boots with it. It was kinda hot not gonna lie. But that's beside the point.
"I always get sent here for bullshit reasons. Yesterday was because I was being loud even though all I did was laugh at the video we were watching. Last week I was because I was sleeping during a test even though I finished mine and turned it in. It's all dumb. All because I was in a fight my freshman year." She sighed and looked down, as if recalling the fight in her memory.
"A fight? Have you been in more after the first one?" I asked. She sighed.
"A couple. But it never got as bad as the first one. The teachers and faculty have been sending me here since. They think it's to keep me from getting in fights. I've been the only one who's been sent here for so long that they stopped sending teachers here to monitor me. I also don't get kicked out of the achoop because my parents keep sending money to keep me here. If you haven't noticed, most of the students here come from wealthy families."
"Oh believe me I've noticed. Do you mind if I ask what happened? The fight I mean." I turned to face her so my neck wasn't strained looking at her.
"Uh, well, it started out as a calm argument, she started yelling at me so I started yelling. And then she said something that...was a closely guarded secret and...I punched her." She looked sad. Seems like whoever she had a fighg with was someone who was close to her. Someone she trusted, and they betrayed her.
"I see...well it sounds like she deserved it. Especially if she spilled the beans on whatever you wanted to keep hidden."
"Yeah...I trusted her and s-she...she uh..." She trailed off. She turned her head away from me and sniffled a bit.
"Y-You don't have to continue. I'm sorry for asking." I looked st her with concern and reached put to try and comfort her.
"No it's ok." She wiped her eyes and turned to face me again. This time with a smile and a small smirk. "So why'd you come to this school?"
"Family's work moved us here. My dad's company needed to send people across the world for some reason. I don't know. I don't ask questions." I sighed.
"Wait across the world? You're not from California?"
"Nope. I'm from South Korea. I went to an international school though, which is why I, you know, can talk to you." I giggled and she turned a little red. Weird.
"Oh. W-Well that must have been hard, leaving your friends and family like that. I've grown up here so I can't imagine how difficult that is." She rubbed the back of her neck and bit her lip a little.
"It wasn't too bad. I don't have much family there and I never had too many friends." I shifted in my seat. "I had a cousin that used to go here though. It's why my parents knew about the school. But apparently she goes to the public school now."
"Really? Who was it? Maybe I knew them." She took out her watle bottle and started drinking.
"Her name is Mei Ahn." And there goes her water. Luckily she spit it to the side.
"Really!?" She stood up and looked at me. She could tell I was startled so she sat back down with a little red on her cheeks. "S-Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. But she's your cousin?"
"Y-Yeah? Why?" I looked at the girl confused.
"N-No reason...does she know you're here?"
"Yeah. Her and her family met us at the airport when we got here."
"Did she...tell you anything?" I raised an eyebrow.
"No? All she talked about was all the fun stuff that we'd be doing around the city together." the girl sighed in relief and mumbled something but I didn't hear it clearly.
"Well, um..." She looked at the clock anf I followed soon after. "Only a five minutes left. You should probably stay here until the bell rings so you don't get in anymore trouble. Me however, I'm gonna leave." She grabbed her backpack and pulled out a piece of paper, which she started to write on.
She passed it to me and said, "I'm Cory. Text me if you'd like. See ya new kid." And with that she ran out of the room. I look down at the paper and read it.

"She doesn't even know my name."
