When Tony Stark arrived home he was surprised to say the least, not ever expecting to be able to live after being kidnapped. He had been found in a desert in Afganistan by none other than James Rhodes himself. When they arrived in New York, Tony was greeted by his assisstant.
"Watch it, coming up here."
Rhodey warned, but Stark being Stark ignored all warnings, Tony then spoke; telling Happy to get rid of the press.
"Are you kidding me with this? Get rid of them."
Tony walked up to Pepper who had tears in her eyes from seeing her long-lost boss, forgetting for a moment who was at home. Tony noticed the tears and mockingly said.
"Your eyes are red. A few tears for your long lost boss."
"Tears of Joy. I hate Job hunting"
"Yeah, Yeah. Vacations over."
Anyone who would look upon the scene of boss and employee would have seen some work colleagues re-united, but Rhodey saw a blossoming relationship. Those who had known Tony for as long as he had, would know that although Tony is an asshole, he's a caring one, and he's immature, and probably has to experience growth, before ever realising the love one another held towards each other. 'One-day, One-day Rhodey thought.
Tony ordered to be taken to get a cheese-burger, along with a press conference being held. Pepper argued insisting that he needed to be taken to a hospital. Tony's blunt persona disagreed and won. He arrived at the press conference with a cheeseburger in hand, and everyone around him in bewilderment. Rhodey and Pepper conversed both as confused as the next. When Tony reached the podium, many reporters shouted out their questions. Tony ignored them all and started by telling everyone to sit down.
"Hey, would it be alright if everyone sat down? Why don't you just sit down? That way you can see me and I can... A little less formal and.."
Everyone sat down and Tony took a bite from his Cheeseburger. Tony greeted Obidiah, relief in his eyes when he saw his old friend.
"I never got to say goodbye to Dad. I never got to say goodbye to my father. There are questions I would have asked him. I would have asked him how he felt about what this company did. If he was conflicted, if he ever had doubts. Or maybe he was every inch of the man we all remember from the newsreels. I saw young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw that I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero accountability."
Everyone was shaken by the words that had come from Tony's mouth, he sounded the same, looked the same, walked the same. BUT this was not the same Tony everyone remembered. At Tony's word, Pepper was bought back to minutes ago when a strange man walked up to her mentioning something about S.H.I.E.L.D, he said his name was Agent Phil Coulson. Maybe she should give him a call.
When someone asked what happened Stark burst into text again.
"I had my eyes opened. I came to realise that I have more to offer this world than just making things blow up. And this is why, effective immediately, I am shutting down the weapons manufacturing division of Stark International until such a time as I can decide what the future of the country will be."
Everything was thrown into commotion, Obidiah was secretly furious. Pepper was astounded. And the reporters were excited because of the drama.
After Tony headed home, Obidiah and he had a heated discussion, until it was interrupted by a small boy walking downstairs.
