The rest of the day drones on in an endless blur of teachers lecturing about useless material that will never help anyone in life, students staring as Chloe makes her way down the hallways, and migraines pounding at her temples, a side effect of the withdrawal she is experiencing.
When the final bell rings at last, Chloe makes her way slowly out of her classroom and to her locker, not wanting to make it outside in time to see anyone she risks knowing in the life that seems to be slipping away from her. The life of laughter and smiles, hugs and kisses, I love you's and you're my one and only's that Josh brought to her.
Dragging herself to her locker, she sees a black haired boy with gray eyes leaning against the one neighboring hers. He smiles at her as she unlocks the metal door and shoves her supplies inside, picking up the science textbook she needs to complete her homework. As she closes the door and begins walking out of the school, Zach walks directly next to her.
"How was your first day back?" he asks after a long time of uncomfortable silence.
"Hell," Chloe grunts in reply.
"Well that sounds lovely," he jokes. She shoots him an icy glare, causing the sparkle in his eyes to dim.
As the pair enters the lawn across from the student parking lot, Zach spots something that causes him to stop dead in his tracks. In an attempt to keep Chloe from seeing what he has seen, he steps in front of her and turns toward her, blocking the whole student lot from her view.
