Waiting for Superman to pick her up
In the waiting room, the nurse with Chloe's photograph on her phone wanders around, stopping at every person she sees to flash the picture. Everyone she shows the picture to does not recognize the girl. That is until she approaches a boy with a cast on his arm that is sitting in the corner of the room, reading an old edition of Sports Illustrated magazine. The boy looks to be around the same age as the Jane Doe.
"Excuse me," the nurse, whose name is Dara, says. The boy looks up, revealing shocking green eyes and a splattering of freckles across his nose.
"Yes?" he asks, furrowing his eyebrows at the nurse.
"Do you happen to know this girl? She arrived at the hospital a little while ago and we're trying to identify her. You wouldn't happen to know her, would you?" Dara asks, showing the boy the image on her phone.
"Oh my god," he mutters, his face flushing.
"She's in pretty bad condition. Thanks for your time. Have a nice day," the nurse sighs, turning to walk away, but the boy stops her.
"That's Chloe Lukasiak. She is, was, my best friend," he says.
"Can you come with me? The doctor will want to speak with you," Dara instructs, shocked to find that the boy does know Jane- Chloe.
Nurse Dara guides the boy down the narrow hallways of the hospital, leading him to a male doctor standing outside one of the occupied rooms.
"Doctor Price," Dara states. "This boy knows our Jane Doe."
"Her name is Chloe Lukasiak. She is 17 years old, turning 18 in a couple of months," the boy mumbles.
"And who are you?" Doctor Price asks, scratching at his scruffy beard.
"I'm her friend Cody Johnston," the boy replies.
"Now do you know why your friend is in the hospital?" Doctor Price questions.
"I'm assuming drugs," Cody murmurs.
"You assume correctly. Would you happen to know what type of drug she has been using?"
"N-no," Cody stammers. "I know she's been taking a variety of things. Marijuana, Cocaine, LSD..."
"Okay. Thank you for your help Cody. You can go now," the doctor says."Would it be okay if I stayed? I don't want her to wake up and see that she's alone," Cody explains. Doctor Price nods his head and Cody walks into the hospital room and drops down into a chair next to the bed.
He looks at the beautiful girl he has been in love with for years and wonders why this had happened to such a wonderful girl. There is so much evil in the world, so why must the world punish those that are still good? Why must the people who deserve the most sunshine get nothing put rain?
