The night was cold. The stars above my head shined down as I look around. Where am I? The surroundings seem like I have been there but I don't know where I am exactly. I look behind me and see the ocean. Waves coming in and out. I couldn't hear it. I heard nothing. I only saw the deep blue waves in front of my face. Then. The ocean goes calm. The waves stopped coming which was unusual. The wind seemed to stop immediately. The air escaped from my lungs. I couldn't breathe. I try and gasp for air but nothing enters my body. I fall to the ground, dizzy. I hear nothing. I am alone. Scared. No one is around me to help. No one is around me to see. I die. Alone and cold.
You sit up quick. You gasp for air awake and hyperventilating. Tears fall down your cheeks as Clay perks awake. You grab your head with your hands crying and breathing heavily.
"Hey, hey, hey," Clay says softly. "Its okay! Hey Y/n, its okay." He tries his best to comfort you in every way he can. He hugs you as he strokes your hair. You slowly slow your breathing and try to stop crying. Clay hugs you tight giving you a sense of comfort as your breathing slows to normal and tears are only water in your eyes. Clay continues to stroke your head. "Its going to be okay Y/n. Its okay. Y/n. Look at me," he says bringing your eyes to his. "Y/n. Its going to be okay. You are okay." You look into his eyes, tears falling again.
"Clay..." you cry. You go into his arms crying into his shoulder. "I was alone." you choke. "I was on the beach alone... the tide stopped moving. It was night and I was alone on a motionless beach. I couldn't hear anything Clay. Its like I was deaf." you say quietly. "The breeze disappeared and I couldn't breathe. I gasped for air and tried to breathe. I was alone on a beach at night not being able to breathe. I fell to the ground and was dizzy. I died. I died Clay. Alone and silent," you explain trying to stay calm.
"Y/n. None of that was real. It was a dream Y/n. I promise. You will be okay Y/n. Its not real," he says. You nod.
"I know Clay. It just. It felt so real. When I woke up it was like I didn't have air until then. Like I just stopped breathing," you say. It was true. It was like you weren't breathing while you slept. When you woke up it felt like you just got air back.
"Y/n. I promise you and I swear on my life. It wasn't real. You are okay," he assures you. You were in his arms for another minute, sitting there silently. You grabbed your phone, checking the time. 3:26 am.
You lay there, restlessly. The hours go by and you stare at the ceiling. Clay was asleep behind your head. You feel his chest pump in and out as be breathes. You count his breaths. 1. 2. 3. 4. 1. 2. 3. 4. Over and over for what seems like hours. You see the sun starts to rise as you get a sudden urge.
You stand up slowly. You walk over to the door and slip your shoes on. You only had on a sports bra, sweater, and shorts but you didn't care. You walk out the door. It's still dark but the streetlights light up the area. You walk to the down the road turning towards the beach.
Once you reach the sand you slip your shoes off, stepping forward and toward the water. There was a large breeze causing your hair to flow behind your shoulders. You continue walking. Step by step by step. The sand melts in between your toes as you get to the damp sand. The tide was pulled out. It was low tide. You see a lot of shells on the beach for miles. You look down at the north, then the south. Just sand and water. You hear someone running up.
"Y/n!" you hear Clay yell after you. You stop moving still looking out at the ocean. The sun rising over the water. "Y/n! What are you doing?" you hear Clay yell once more. He runs up behind you wrapping a blanket around you. "You are going to get sick, Y/n. Come back to the house," he pleads.
"Clay. What if that was Deja Vu. You know that happens right? It just felt too real to be 'just a dream'," you say.
"Y/n. I don't think all the air is going to disappear," he says. "Come back to the house. I will make breakfast. Its 6 am Y/n."
