Humanity. Something most have or would have had. In this case something Kokushibo had. Something he gave up as easily as he was willing to lose.

Why? Well a few things actually. His greed and over bearing will to grow stronger and to surpass his younger twin Yoriichi. To fix his ideology on death and defying it as a whole.

But despite all this he had given up for as humanity and how he became something people fear. There was on mistake from it all.

A person who showed nothing but love, kindness and hope to the man by the name of Michikastu Tsugikuni. His lover (First name).

They praised him, gave him support and all the love they could muster everyday from their life to him and only him. When ever some spoke ill about him, they would come forth and talk back.

"What if he is not a good husband or spouse?" "He only cares about himself." "He will never love you."

All these words thrown at them. Telling them the fate they chose. Destined to love a man who will never give it back.

Kokushibo thought often back to his life occasionally. But often times the demon progenitor would stop this and manipulate his way of thinking.

But whenever he took a look at the midnight sky he had seen for over the last 400 years or so. He could only doubt slightly.

Did I make the right choice? Did they truly love me? More than any one? More than him?

Humanity the thing the man with the title of Upper Moon One had over 400 years ago and was more than happy to give away as if a whisper in the wind. The thing he never truly understood why his lover held onto even when he came to turn them into a demon.

Trying his best to convince them.
"My love, become one of us. Be stronger, better."
But they turned themselves away from him the first time. Not even daring to look at him. He was confused. They loved and praised him as a human. Why this when he was better and stronger as a demon. Out envy and anger.

His lover was gone. Killed then eaten.

So as he stood there a beast with extra appendages and things growing from him. Teeth sharp and nails eve sharper.

As he looked and truly felt like what he was. He thought to himself.

This...is this what I wanted? Is this a samurai? What it looks like?

As he stood there two figures he had seen long ago. A boy with hanafuda earrings, and a child with a book in their hands.

His eyes widen. Not even paying no mind to the battle only the figures.

The boy had a flute in his hands cherishing it. The child had a book in theirs. A book that Kokushibo had for over more so years forgetting who it originally belonged to.

The boy looking at the flute with loving eyes muttering how the original owner promised to love and protect him from harm.

The child. The child words brought tears to the demon.

"Thank you for the book Tsugikuni-sama! I love the moon. It's just a beautiful or even more than the sun! Shining and being graceful. Thank you for teaching me to read!"

'No...why...no...Yoriichi, (First name)....
Yoriichi I just wanted to be you...'

The boy changed to a man. A man the demon had grown to hate and envy. He looked at him with burning eyes. But all that was returned was love.

The child changed into an adult figure. The spouse of Michikatsu Tsugikuni.

He looked at them with tears. Sadness was all they held. The lover that saw him as the best, was taken and killed by it as well. Waiting for centuries for their true love to return along with his brother.

Then in a strike the demon started to disappear. He was dying.

He looked at his lover seeing him and his brother who did nothing but love him.

But they walked away.

That was why. They loved Michikatsu. Not Kokushibo.

His lover loved him. The human before this. Not the creature after.

All they did was love him. And yet all he ever did was hurt them.

Humanity the thing that brings people together, through times of disaster and danger. A bond like no other strong as the iron of a sword.

But just as easily can break. And snap away.
