Sam unlocked the motel door and lead them all inside. Riley stripped off her jacket and kicked off her shoes before dropping down onto her bed and laying across it. She'd barely been there a minute when Dean turned to both her and Sam.
"Alright, you both got some explaining to do." Dean said.
"Not now, Dean." Sam sighed.
"Yes, now, Sam." Dean argued. "You nearly died back there."
Riley sat up slowly and ran a hand through her hair.
"And you," Dean turned to her with a accusatory stare. "Mary seemed pretty convinced that you'd killed someone."
"Dean, just stop." Sam interrupted.
"No, Sam! I get why you feel like you're to blame, I do. But you gotta stop blaming yourself!" Dean exclaimed. "It's not like you could have stopped it!"
"Actually, I could. I could have warned her." Sam sighed.
"What?" Dean's face scrunched up in confusion.
Sam exhaled a long sigh and he sat down at the table. Riley crossed her legs and leant her elbows on her knees as Sam told Dean all about the dreams he'd had leading up to Jessica's brutal death. He even revealed things that Riley hadn't heard before. Listening to Sam talk about Jess's death brought a great wave of sadness over Riley and she wiped at her eyes before either of the brothers could see her crying. When Sam had finished, he excused himself to the bathroom. Riley hoped that Dean would find it too uncomfortable to talk to her alone and would either change the subject, or simply not talk to her. Apparently, that wasn't the case.
"Alright, your turn." Dean said, turning to her.
"Dean, I don't wanna talk about it." Riley shook her head.
"Tough, start talking." Dean said. He pulled one of the chairs towards the end of the bed and sat down on it.
"Why does it matter? Mary's dead." Riley sighed.
"Because, like Sam, you almost died today. Keeping secrets like that could be detrimental to people like us." Dean said.
Riley ran a hand through her hair again and sighed. She looked down at her hands, avoiding his gaze.
"Look, I get that you probably don't wanna tell me. If it wasn't for the fact this secret could be used against you, I wouldn't ask." Dean sighed. "But if someone else were to find out about this secret before us, they could use it against you. It could kill you, Riley."
Riley looked up at him. His face was unusually kind and understanding, something Riley wasn't used to seeing when he looked at her. Images flashed in her mind, memories resurfacing before her very eyes. Dean watched her, waiting patiently for her to speak. Riley sighed and with a weak voice, she started talking just as Sam entered the room again.
"When I was younger, I lived with my parents and my younger brother, Liam." Riley began. "We were a pretty close family, but my Dad always preferred my brother. He never said it, but I could just tell by the way he used to treat us. When Liam was three and I was seven, my Mom died."
"I'm sorry." Dean said when Riley paused. Sam sat on the bed beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
Riley nodded her head and continued. "My Dad changed after that. I think he blamed me."
