Chapter 8: Jack Ew Lantern

Halloween night, 2015...

"Jack! Your costume's ready!" A woman exclaimed from her room.

"Coming, mom!" A young Jack runs to his mother's room.

"Surprise, honey!" Jack's mom shows him his costume.

"I love this! Thanks, mom!" Jack hugs his costume

As evening came, Jack got dressed up, excited to receive different kinds of candies.

"Jack. Don't forget to let your sister come with you," Jack's mom reminded him.

"But...mom. I'll just meet up with Teddy and the gang. It's boys' night," Jack begged.

"No "buts". Just let Leslie come with you. It's her first Trick or Treat," Jack's mom said.

"Fine. Come on, Leslie," Jack groaned as his sister ran towards him.

"Okay, Les. Listen, I'm gonna meet Teddy and my friends soon. And please, please be quiet," Jack looked at his sister.

"I just want candy," Leslie looked back at Jack.

"We'll have candy as soon as we meet my friends," Jack smiled as he held his sister's hand.

Night came, Jack began worrying as he wasn't sure if his friends were going to meet with him. Leslie then started complaining  for not having candy in their basket yet. Annoyed by Leslie's complaints, Jack finally decided to go from house to house to gain some candy. After Gaining three buckets of candy, the siblings decided to walk back home but they were suddenly cornered by a boy named Tyler, who happens to be Jack's bully.

"Hey! Can I have some candy, nerd?" Tyler mocked Jack for his frail look.

"Back off, please," A nervous Jack pleaded.

"Candy first," Tyler glared at Jack.

"Jack, I'm scared," Leslie mumbled.

"It's going to be alright," Jack assured his sister.

A nervous Jack decides to stand up for himself for the first time, clenching and raising his fists.

"Oh, nerd's gone tough," Tyler mocks him.

Angered, Jack attempts to punch Tyler but his punch fails, giving  Tyler the upper hand who pushes him into a pile of rotten pumpkins. Tyler proud of his achievement, took all of their candies and earning Jack the nickname of  "Jack Ew Lantern".  

After the Halloween incident, Jack was known as "Jack Ew Lantern" for the rest of the school year.  And would still stick to him till he was 14.

2018...

Determined to not get bullied again, Jack changed his look. He no longer used glasses, bulked up a bit, and joined his school's football team. Becoming a star player, Jack finally lost his Halloween nickname and was now called "The Charging Bull" for his strength to push any opponent he faces against during football. However due to his rising popularity in school, Jack's ego got the best of him and started becoming like Tyler, bullying children, who were smaller than him. His bullying unlike Tyler was more physical, for Jack also studied kickboxing along with Teddy and his other friends. However Jack never lost his soft side when it comes to his sister, who he was overprotective of. Jack became a brute even scaring Tyler himself but when he met Cassie, he realized his errors and was determined to redeem himself.

Now...

"So yeah. Cassie really helped me see my errors. And here I am making amends," Jack smiled.

"That must've been really hard, huh?" Avery wondered.

"With Cassie's help, I really don't think so," Jack replied.

"The power of love," Avery said.

"Anyways...I just came here to apologize for everything. I messed up," Jack, ashamed of his actions.

"Look. The past is the past. Plus you saved me from Tyler earlier in the mall...so you get ten positive points from me," Avery joked.

"Heh. Tyler has always been a bigger dick than I am," Jack laughed.

"Oh he sure is," Avery quickly replied.

The former enemies reconciled that night. And with extra help from Avery, Jack was finally able to let go of his old ways.
