Jerome's POV
Carlee pulled Cassie out on to the porch. I didn't think much of it as I zoned out back to last night. Next thing I knew, there was yelling outisde and Mitch cam the stairs. The yelling was loud enough for me to understand clearly.
"You knew I liked Jerome since I met him-" Wait what? Was that Carlee yelling?
"-and you still have the nerve to go and sleep with him?" It was Carlee and she was yelling at Cassie for sleeping with me last night.
I was trying to process this, obviously Mitch doing the same thing next to me.
Not 3 seconds later, Cassie was yelling back.
"-telling him things you can't even tell your best friend. It makes it even worse that he wasn't wearing a shirt."
I turned to see most of the color drain from Mitch's face. I gave him a questioning look, but turned back to process the fight that was going on outside between the two girls.
Mitch's POV
Suddenly, I realized, it all made sense, all of it. That's why Cassie freaked when I told her I liked Carlee. She saw me talking to Carlee. I put my face in my hands.
"No no no no no no no." I repeated through my hands.
Carlee walked in.
"Did you hear any of that?" she asked a bit rushed.
Jerome just stared. Finally he spoke.
"Enough."
She walked out, with Jerome after her. I honestly didn't know what to do, so I walked outside to the porch, completely ignoring the fact that I hadn't seen Cassie come inside. I began to walk up behind her quitely, but I stopped mid-way, admiring her. She stood looking around at the nature, her hair blowing along with the wind. It was light brown with natural highlights. I continued to sneak up behind her. I hugged her from behind, sending a jolt through her, she obviously didn't know that I was there. She spun to face me.
"Mitch-" She attempted to apologize, I could tell.
"Shh" I put a finger to her lips, quieting her. I turned her back around.
I rested my chin on the top of her head and rocked back and forth with her in my arms.
"You don't love me anymore do you? Because I neglected you all these years, not realizing the truth about your feelings. You and I both know Jerome was there when I needed to be and wasn't. I made a mistake, and now, I suffer the consequences, losing you." I waited for her response, it took her minute, but I was both relieved, and worried when she gave it to me.
"I don't know, Mitchell, I don't know."
I let go of her and regrettfully walked off into the house.
Jerome's POV
I followed Carlee all the way out the door and down to the park. When she finally sat down in the grass, I came and sat next to her.
"So, since we met, huh?" I asked looking around the park, which was empty.
I didn't realize it was so cold until now, no wonder the park was deserted. Then, I looked back down at Carlee, who was slightly shivering. I took off my jacket and wrapped it around her, being extremely careful.
"Thanks." she said simply, still refusing to look at me.
I took a gentle hold of the bottom of her chin and turned it towards me.
"You don't really love me anymore. I can see it, because you have Mitch. You don't linger on me anymore, hoping for me to notice. Mitch understands you more than I do, and you realize that now. I have been careless and stupid, and now I deserve the consequences, losing you. Mitch deserves you more than I ever did."
With that, I let her head fall into my collarbone.
"I just don't know anymore." she whispered weakly
It seemed like none of us did.
