I was crying so hard but inaudibly when Randy came back into bed, pulled his bedside drawer and shut it again.
Then I went still with tears on my face, lying on my side with my back facing him. The sheets were pulled down my head swiftly and he was pointing something to my temple. I figured it was a gun because it was cold and... it was a gun.
"Dear oh dear, who's going to satiate my horny drive after I kill you and that bastard in your belly tomorrow?" He said calmly.
I held back tears and fought so hard to not scream as I kept my eyes shut.
The drawer opened and closed again and I heard Randy snore after sometime.
I quickly stuffed my phone and a small purse into the pocket of my nightie and began tip toeing out the room."Where to, sweetie?"
The lights flicked on.He was awake and staring at me with a cocky grin.
I began to shake.
I was frightened to the bone.
"Uh, uh I'm going to get water from the... ki... kitchen. I'm thirsty. ""But you only drink once during the night, Roxie."
Dead silence.
"Rox? Girl, hey." He was staring at me so hard as he said the words.
"Well, I... I... " I stuttered.
"Oh yes, I'm sorry I totally forgot you were carrying something there." He said and pointed at my stomach as he stood up and opened the drawer.
Then bang.
Randy was on the floor. Blood was trickling down his face and I looked up to see a figure dressed in black with a vase in hand.
He quickly rushed to me and pushed the door open.
Lupita was coming from her room in a run and I stopped to say something; I don't know what and why.The masked person took my hand in his and run with me to the street.
I was led into a white car at the other end of the street.
He drove off and took his cape off in the middle of the drive, about an hour from the house."Alex?"
He turned to me with cold eyes and a smile which I didn't return.
We drove till morning and arrived at a place far out of town.
It was a small countryside house with a very beautifully lined lawn on each side of the entrance and a small balcony that seemes like a garden because of many flowers.
He led me to one of the rooms.
"You'll stay here for now. Take a shower, there are dresses in that wardrobe." He said as he closed the door slowly.
I mumbled a soft thank you.
"And oh!"
He opened the door suddenly, frightening me."I'm sorry, please come down for breakfast once you're done."
"Alright, thanks." I said.
At the table, there was a kettle and mug, tea bags and scones.
"Please help yourself. I'm yet to shop for food. And uhm... Can you cook?""No" I responded flatly.
Our eyes met for a second and we both burst into a short lived laughter. After the tea, Alex took my hand and led me into a small room that had just a small bed at a corner. He made me sit on the edge of the bed and he sat opposite me.
"Listen carefully, Rox. I believe you now realise that you would have lost your life last night if I didnt intervene just because you chose to tag my caution as a lie."
I just sat quietly because I was ashamed. Alex took my hands in his palm and patted my back.
I was about to speak but he interrupted, "We have to get rid of the child."
"What?!" I exclaimed.
"Be calm, Rox. Let me finish talking please!"
At this point, I could literally see a fire that symbolized anger flare in his small eyes."Randy is not someone you had to get close to in the first place. He is my father..."
He paused then and allowed me to take the piece of shocking news in. I only stared so intently into his eyes.He continued, " I don't understand a thing myself. He took me in as a worker and just made the revelation to me on the day I left the house.
I was asked to kill you, Rox. You're a threat.
Randy's a lot more than you know. He's made me commit some brutal and inhumane acts but I love you, Rox."I ignored the shocking confession because... well, I don't think I even heard it right away.
He looked at me with so much worry and I was immediately mesmerized by his eyes that I only kept looking into them.We kept staring and drawing closer to each other.
Only a thunderous knock on the door kept us from kissing.
"Don't worry, it's a friend." He whispered with a smirk and that made me chuckle.
He walked to the door with his back, smiling at me till he got there and turned.Alex came in with a suitcase and threw it on the sofa. Walking back to where I sat, he still wore that smirk.
"You wanted me too, all the while, huh?" He stated than questioned confidently.
"What the hell are you talking about?", I said, annoyed and got up, getting into my room.
He followed me in there.
"Hey" He whispered in his soothing voice.
"I'm sorry, okay? Let's get back to what we were discussing."I looked up at him from the bed and signalled him to sit by me.
"Sorry again, Rox. Never meant to sound foolish."
I nodded."We need to get out of the country, Rox." Perhaps to your country."
I nodded.
"I think something is wrong, Alex. Randy would... I don't think he would hurt me." I said and began sobbing.
"Rox, I need you to listen and don't act like a child to this... Randy is a murderer. He killed your mother. Yes, I believe you found out a bit about that and that is why he tried to kill you. I can only tell you that he is related to you in a way that I don't know but..."
"Shut up! Shut up, you bastard!"
I hit him in the chest with balled up fists severally and he just sat facing me and receiving the blows in calm. After sometime, he forcefully held me to his chest and began patting my back.
"Bastard? I'm that, I know. I even only found out that the father I've searched for for so long is only a murderer, Rox.""I'm very sorry. Got carried away and... my child, Alex, my child! I'm so scared what might happen to us."
"I know..."
He hugged me tighter.
