Chapter 15 The 'Talk'

Lucas took me outside towards the gardens in the Black estate. So, We could talk without having his mother interrupt us. I searched for the right words to say to him. I thought it would be easy telling him that I couldn’t be with him because I was in love with someone else. But, now that we were face to face. I realized how hard it was; telling someone that the person, they thought they were fated to spend the rest of their life with, didn’t really want to be with them. 

To break the awkward silence looming between us. Lucas decided to speak first,‘’ What is it that you wanted to talk about? If it’s about my mother then you don’t have to worry. I know she can be a little intense at times but things will get better once you both get to know each other."

‘’A little? That’s putting it mildly but don’t worry, It’s not about her. It’s actually about us.’’

‘’Us? Now I am intrigued.’’

‘’You know, how we have been told since childhood that we all have a predestined soulmate waiting for us to find them and when we do they will complete us?’’

‘’Yes, I remember.’’

‘’Well, the truth is that I never really believed it. I was never opposed to the idea of finding my soulmate but it wasn’t something that gave my life meaning either I was content with finding just someone I could fall in love with instead of my soulmate and I did…... until you came along and nothing has changed for me. I don’t have any feelings for you Lucas and I don’t think I am at risk of falling in love with you anytime soon. So I thought it was prudent that I told you, I won’t be mating with you.EVER.’’

He patiently listened to everything I had to say without showing a single expression on his face and just when I was starting to wonder that he may have gone into shock he did the most unexpected thing.

 He laughed, ‘’Oh Elena, you are more hilarious than I could have ever imagined you to be. You say the funniest things with such seriousness that I was starting to think you came here to forsake our bond just so you could play pretend human with that mutt of yours.’’

 I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and here I thought I would tell Lucas about breaking the mating bond and that would be it. Simple and concise. Only now, did I realized how wrong my assumptions were.

 ‘’Mutt?! Are you talking about Aaron?’’ I said, aghast at his choice of words.

‘’Who else? I am starting to wonder, what goes on in that brain of yours? You think you can come here and tell me that you don’t want to mate with me and thats what going to happen? Surely, you aren’t that stupid? I had heard about your incompetence long ago but this is a whole new level of idiocy.  How about this? you go back home and abandon any thought of breaking the mating bond and I will forget this conversation ever happened. I am willing to do this much since you are my mate even though it is very difficult for me to forgo your presumptuousness and if you disagree, I don’t know about ending this relationship but I will surely end that mutts life with my own hands. You wouldn’t want that to happen now, would you?’’

‘’You are threatening me?’’

‘’No dear, just stating facts. You need to know this as my mate I don’t share and I sure as hell am not going to give up what’s mine. EVER.’’

Now I was royally pissed, ‘’Unbelievable! Who the hell do you think you are to threaten me? I thought what I doing was unfair to you but I am starting to think it is exactly what you deserve. Mark my words Lucas Black. I won’t mate with you even if hell freezes over. Do what you can and one more thing I am a freaking genius with medals to prove it. so, don’t you dare call me stupid.’’

 After blowing up in Lucas’s face I came home pissed off not just at Lucas and his stuck-up mother but at everything. Nothing was going as I hoped it would and I knew even harder times lied ahead and for the very first time in my life I had no clue as to what I was going to do.
