Chapter 11

"See you later princess." I hear the words whispered in my ear as the hammock feels suddenly loose.

I get up and twist round to see Thomas,Alby and Minho walking away. At first I feel shocked,I didn't know Alby was a runner. I lie there after that,un able to get back to sleep.

Today is constant rain,all the Gladers work in doors of risk of getting soaked. But I can't help but concentrate on the Maze doors.

"It'll be all right Emily don't worry," Newt says "Come on. Minho knows what he's doing."
"Why did Alby go with them? I mean he's not a runner." I ask.
"Can you keep a secret?"
"Yeah."
"Things are changing now. We're getting more hope. Alby's in charge,he needed to check it out. Now,come on." He drags me inside the homestead. Where we all just gather there.

"You promise to me he's going to be all right?" I ask Newt,I feel like my gut is about to explode. But I hold it in.
"They'll make it. I promise you."

We then hear loud voices and calls.

"What's going on?"

Newt doesn't say anything,just starts to run to the centre Maze walls,I follow him. Everyone does.

"Newt answer me! What's going on?"
"Emily calm down!"
"No until someone tells me what is going on?"
"They're not coming back."
"What!?"

The doors suddenly crank.

"What the hell?" I whisper to myself.

I can't process what's going on until I see Alby lying there frozen on the ground,being dragged by Thomas who seems to be in pain. Something in his leg which makes him move extremely slowly,wincing at every step he takes. Then Minho,who helps Thomas drag Alby. Screaming out in frustration. The others start screaming but I just stand there,right in front of the doors. I see the time I have,I just do it. I scramble through the doors,hearing the others scream my name after me. But I keep moving,worried for a moment that the doors will squish me. But not until I land on the other side and Minho grasps me in his arms.
