The more me and Pico talked, the more comfortable I got with him. He was a pretty cool dude once you got past the criminal actions and gun threats.
Theres something weird about him though. Like, nostalgia or dejavu weird. He felt familiar. In a comforting way.
The moon was hidden behind dark gray clouds, making the night even darker. I had no idea what time it was. I was tired and my feet hurt. Pico didn't slow down though. Hes probably walked longer than I have.
He still would tell me what he was running from though. I'd assumed it was the police, but he just laughed at that. Said it was more dangerous.
I yawned, slouching a little. I was about ready to just lay down in the wet grass and doze off.
"You okay Keith?" Pico slowed down and turned to me.
"Yeah, just-" I yawned again. "A bit tired."
"I'll find a place for us to rest, there should be a town nearby. Think you can make it?"
"Yeah, I'll be good." I didnt want to hold him back.
"If you're sure." He kept walking, glancing back at me every once in a while.
After a while it started raining. It was freezing cold downpour, running down my back, soaking my hair and shirt.
If that didnt wake me up, I dont know what would.
That didnt slow Pico down. What is keeping this guy motivated enough to do this?
I shivered. If the sun was going to rise anytime soon, I had no idea. It could be 10pm or 10am, and there would be no difference.
"We should get to a town soon. If not, I'll just find an evergreen tree." Pico said like he'd had the best day of his life. How could he be so optimistic?
"How soon is soon?" I groaned.
"Soonish."
"I dont know if I can walk that far."
"If you want to sleep in the muddy, open field, I guess that's your decision."
"That's not what I m-meant." I shuddered.
"I can carry you if you'd like." Pico offered.
"Really? I mean- no thanks. I'll make it." I probably wasnt going to make it.
"Alright, if you say so. I'll slow down for you though." He started walking backwards, keeping an eye on me.
"That's fine, I can keep up."
"Yeah right. You obviously need to sleep, your eye is twitching like crazy, and you're obviously about just holding up. I'll just carry you." He acted like a mom. At least a better mom than mine was.
"No, I'm fine. Really, dont worry."
"No you arent." He scooped me up, letting me piggy back. "Just take a nap or something. I'll wake you up when we get there."
"No, I-" I yawned. He was right. I was fighting to keep my eyes even half open. "Okay." I yawned and gave into the inevitable.

He was out like a light. If I let him keep walking, he would've collapsed in the grass. I, however, still had a long way before I would even yawn. I was a fugitive, and had been since I was 13. Now I was 24, so about 11 years of adjusting.
In the distance, I could just barely make out the shape of a city.
I picked up the pace, Keith's head on my shoulder, his long blue hair sticking to his face.
He looked kinda cute when he was sleeping.
In a friend way. A lot of people looked cute when they were sleeping.
Sometimes.
Soon I could smell smoke and hear car horns. Cities rarely slept.
I just hope the noise doesnt wake Keith up. It probably wouldn't, he was sleeping like the dead.
The grass slowly lead into dirt, and soon roads.
Bright lights shone in the dark night. The smell of gasoline overwhelmed everything else.
The pouring rain didnt let up, and the stars were still hiding.
I followed the sidewalk, looking for a closed shop to sleep behind. Maybe a bakery, those always tossed out day old food.
I settled for an old coffee shop, the paint on the sides peeling off. The bitter coffee smelled better than gasoline, that's for sure. It had a ledge over the alleyway next to it, so the rain wouldn't be pouring on us as we rested.
I set Keith down, propping him up against the wall. I sat down beside him, resting my head on my knees.
Keith tipped over a little, resting his head on my shoulder.
I closed my eyes. I was just going to rest them. Someone had to keep watch.
I'll just put down my head.

Pico soon fell asleep. He was exhausted from walking. Keith stayed pretty much still throughout the night, being a heavy sleeper.
The rain soon started the let up. The lack of sound made everything more loud.
The sun started to rise over the wet city, its orange glow reflecting off of the clean glass windows.

The sun shone into my eyes, its warm glow waking me up.
I looked around. What happened? My feet hurt like I'd gone on a trip to IKEA.
I lifted my head up off of someones shoulder.
It was Pico. He was waking up as well.
Bits of my memory started to come back to me.
Pico rubbed his eyes, yawning.
"Good Morning."
"Morning, kid."
"I'm not a kid."
"I call everyone 'kid', don't worry."
"What 'everyone?'"
"Whatever. We have to get back on the road soon."
Another Chapter Done! The next will be up soon, once I write it.
