ZOEY

11 days and 10 nights since pollen was last at this very doorstep. sometimes i can't even bare to think his name, other times it's the opposite.
whats he doing right now? how is he doing right now? he's probably disowning me to his parents, his parents disowning me right back. why do i even care? he's left me alone, i feel free finally. able to escape to another platform, but at what cost?

"what's up?" it's jack, he plops onto the couch next to me, his body bring off a cold energy; he must've been outside. he sees me thinking and decides to wonder. "you alright?"

"me? yeah, yeah i'm good." i nod quickly. i probably haven't been this close to jack since our last encounter. it's most likely better that way.

"you seem, i dunno, off."

"i'm just tired, it was a long day today."

"zoey, you were in the house the whole time."
he's got me in a metaphorical lock hold and it's chocking me nearly.

"i did a lot of thinking i guess that wore me off."

"about pollen?" he questions.

i fight back; "excuse me?"

"we're you thinking about pollen?" he repeats the inquiry more thoroughly.

"why would i?" i ask defensively. my face is surely a dark red, and Jack's eyes just won't leave the sight of it.

he shrugs, "im not sure, zoey, why would you be?"

i quickly stand up. "what the hells wrong with you? if you have a problem with me jack just fucking say it already."

he stands up to my level. "i don't have a problem with you, zoey. i'm asking a yes or no question."

"why? why do you hate me?"

"i don't fucking hate you-" he huffs and lowers his tone, "alright? i just want you to tell the truth for once."

"truth? jack, what truth."

"that pollen fucking assaul-"

"what's all the noise for, guys?" another voice, corbyn's barges into our convo. we both give off an innocent look, as if we weren't just arguing- like always.
it's like we haven't been the same since, and we never will.

"nothing, corbyn, we're just talking." jack shoo's him away but he doesn't move, at least not yet.

"you guys are always fighting, what's it about this time?"

"i said nothing, just go back to whatever you were doing." Jack mumbles, not even facing me anymore; instead he's grabbing his things. "forget i ever said anything." was the last word i hear him mutter before he's up the stairs.

corbyn furrows his eyebrows. "c'mon man," he suggests to jack that he should just stay but Jack only shakes his head leaving me with a concerned corbyn. "he doesn't hate you, zoey. he's just convinced pollen hurt you and he's mad because he thinks you're protecting him."

i looked straight up at Corbyn's eyes, "i'm not." and lie.

"just know we're here, zoey. and pollen can't hurt you anymore, alright?"

"okay," i only nod.

"goodnight, zoey."
