Chapter 4- The Phoenix Comes To Life*

I sat next to my brother in the DCD2 office, spinning around in a spinny chair and fiddling with a pen in my hand.

"Nix, focus. We need to find a good melody for this song, and you being distracted isn't helping.", Pete scolded, grabbing two monster energy drinks from his mini fridge.

He gave one to me and I opened it, taking a sip.

"Alright, so let's look at what you guys have so far.", I said, putting on the headphones and opening the file.

It sounded okay, but the drum beat was too slow.

"Pete, let me ask you something.", I said.

"Okay.", he replied.

"Do you think that Andy Hurley is going to play this and actually enjoy playing it?", I asked, looking at him.

He looked like I'd just told him I was pregnant.

"Good point.", he said.

He called in his friend, Butch to come help us.

"So, Butch, my sister was saying that the drums are too slow. What do you think?", Pete asked, turning the demo back on.

He stopped it after a bit.

"Pete, man, I have to agree with your sister. She's right. I don't think anyone is going to want to play that.", Butch replied, high- fiving me.

"Alright Phee, since you seem to be so good at this, you can fix what you think needs to be fixed.", Pete said.

I shrugged and took another sip of my energy drink.

1 hour later, my version of the melody was made and complete.

"Phoenix.", Pete said.

I looked scared.

"Nix, that was great!", Pete smiled, hugging me.

"Yeah Phoenix, that was great.", Butch smiled.

"I mean, it was nothing. I just sped up the drum beat, moved the bass and aligned the electric guitar.", I smiled, slightly blushing, flattered by the attention.

The day after that, we recorded the vocals and The Phoenix was put onto the album.

I couldn't wait to see the entire album track list.
