While the large banquet had been cancelled, bringing disappointment to many, a small gathering of family was much more appealing.
Tommy very much hated large events; they took so much effort to prepare and just as much to attend. He immediately rushed out to try and find Tubbo as soon as the news broke that he'd have some time to himself before a little family dinner at 6:30pm.
He walked briskly at first moving down the twisting corridors while also trying to remove some of the jewellery he was unfortunately draped in.
Eventually he became bored and broke into a jog and had given up on the jewellery; a couple gold hair pins still remaining in his hair. The daylight attempting to pierce through the dusty old windows left the halls mostly dark; only a few of the oil lamps being lit.
He took a final left turn and stumbled through an archway, his gaze immediately being met by two very burly and large guards stood in front of a door on the other side of the room.
"State your business." One of the men stated unapologetically, his deep voice bouncing off of the stone walls.
Tommy approached them timidly getting just close enough that they could decipher his identity, but still a good few feet away.
"I would like to speak to a guard named Tubbo." Tommy tried to sound assertive however it is doubtful that he was successful.
Upon realising who he was, the guards glared at each other like they had seen someone rise from the dead.
Tommy gave them a confused and a tad concerned look back.
"We are terribly sorry, Your Royal Highness."
"Will you bring him here?"
"Of course."
One guard turned and promptly left, his metallic footsteps slowly fading down the dimly lit hallway.
Tommy impatiently tapped his foot and gave occasional glances to the other guard.
Soon enough, a rather worried looking Tubbo appeared, clearly not being told why he was summoned. His eyes were fixed on the cobble until he spotted the the tall blonde, when his face lit up with surprise.
"Tommy!?"
"Hey Tubbo!"
Tubbo ran the rest of the way to his friend and Tommy pulled him into a hug. "How have you been Tubbo?"
"I've been pretty good, I was moved to the interior, like I said before, I'll try to stop by your room sometimes."
"I will be looking out for you Tubzo. Anyways, sorry I couldn't meet you the other day, things have been pretty hectic around here."
Now, the two boys began to leave, up and out to an exterior walkway. They climbed some stairs and reached a terrace where they looked out and over the castle.
"It's fine man, I get it." Tubbo stood up straight and stared at something far in the distance, the looming darkness of the evening and a chill breeze gave him a slight shudder. Tubbo moved closer to Tommy and he put his head on his shoulder, noticing a glint in his hair as he did so.
"Is that a pin in your hair?" Tubbo asked as a smile began to appear on his face.
Tommy's cheeks went cherry red as he tensed and said "Uhhh, I have no idea what you're talking about." He promptly ripped the shiny pin and threw it right over the edge and down landing near two maids who shrieked in response.
"Keep it!" Tommy shouted down, attracting the attention of many onlookers now.
The women gasped and looked around frantically until their eyes locked onto the teens who were now waving enthusiastically towards them.
"Your Royal Highness?!"
Before the women received their answer however, the boys were gone.
Tommy had said a hasty goodbye as he realised the time and started to make his way to the dining room. He walked as briskly as he could.
A short while later, the grand spruce doors doors swung open, creaking heavily, to let him in. Servants bustled about everywhere, it seemed everyone was just about to eat.
"Tommy! You just made it in time." His father said jovially, seemingly not bothered by Tommy's tardiness.
"Yeah... ahah. Sorry I'm late."
"It's alright son, tonight's a night for celebration after all! We can't be moping now can we?"
"What are we actually celebrating though?" Wilbur asked cautiously.
"Well..." Phil responded. "Alright, all servants leave the room until I call you back in."
One by one they silently exited, only leaving the three princes and the king.
'What is going on? Is this about the announcement tomorrow? He hasn't told us anything about what actually happened when he was away, that must be it...'
"I have been away for quite some time now, though, little has been told about the nature of my travels. A small, but technologically advanced group called the Badlands cropped up just over the border. They have been bothering both us and some of the northern factions that compose the Greater Dream SMP..."
His sons listened intently; this was huge news to them.
"And we have arranged a meeting between us and the most powerful man they've got: Dream."
"Dream?!" Techno exclaimed, he hadn't said a word this whole conversation, with Dream's name causing concern. "You do NOT, want that."
"Son, keep your voice down, it will all be fine, everything is going to be handled: you'll be on security, so I do not see the problem."
"He's not particularly a threat physically, we have enough well-trained soldiers, and well, there is always me. However, he always has a plan." Techno made direct eye contact with Phil, then, content, leant back in his chair. His point was made.
"Well, that just means we will be needing our own plan."
