It's been nearly six months Aliza has been on tour. Most times she flys back home and is gone days later. I'm home helping Randy and Joseph prepare for today. We are having a cookout for the family. No extras today, just family and some friends.
"Boy, stop dancing and come over here and help Randy" Joseph orders while being lazy sitting with his arms crossed in the lawn chair watching as Randy and I struggle to move the tables from the storage shed.
"You know he's in love" Randy jokes sticking his tongue out
"He's sprung. That ain't love" Joseph says
"All I know is I'm happy. Besides, I just find out the label is pushing my album to start much sooner."
"Well what do you think? You think you can come back after thriller? You know those white folk at the Grammy committee is waiting for you to fail." Randy says seriously.
"Well, one thing is for sure, we, Jackson's don't give a cats ass about what them folk think. It's my blood in your veins and you're a fighter. A soldier. Besides, If it weren't for me we wouldn't be here now hurry up and move this stuff"
"Joseph, we have people to take care of this and I gotta go get something so I can't right now" I say leaving, slightly annoyed Joseph makes all my accomplishments his own.
I go through the courtyard and kiss Louie on the cheek and go find bubbles to get him dressed.
At the door Maebelle stops me to give me some mail and I tell her to just put in the my mailbox in the back office.
"Hey Janet- you okay?" I stopped to ask because I notice she looks a bit sad
"Yeah, thanks Michael. "
"Okay, just checking"
"Okay-no wait. I'm not. I miss James, I can't believe it been nearly a year already since we divorced. I just wonder if he's okay. He loved being here with us and now he's just probably alone."
"Dunk-I'm sure he's okay. When he was here he was happy but you weren't after a while. Look, I never told you but after he had the episode on the roof and wanted to jump, he came to me and told me that he feels bad for making you unhappy."
"But how, why would-"
"He thinks you were ashamed of him"
"That's bull. I married him despite his drug problem and sympathetic problematic family." Janet says annoyed
"Okay okay, just try not think about it tonight"
"Fine. Thanks. Let me go help Toy and Rebbie with the food. Last time we let LaToya cook, Joseph got so sick he thought we tried poisoning him" we laughed
