"Flames, flames, flames" the crowd chanted for Reki who was in the middle of a race.
The chants didn't exhilarate him the way they used to, they were just nothing but noise to his ears meant to be tuned out."And the winner is flames!!!"
"Yeah!"
"We expected nothing less from the number one skater"
"He's so cool"
"He's amazing"
"Did you see that awesome move he did?"
"He's one crazy skater"
Murmurs like started taking place after the announcement of Flames aka Reki's 100th consecutive win
"That was a great match, you really are awesome as everyone says" Reki's challenger stated looking very happy "I'll make sure to improve in hope of a rematch one day" the guy said sticking his hand out to Reki for a shake
"Yeah whatever" Reki mumbled grabbing his skateboard and walked past the guy not bothering himself with the hand waiting for him to shake "I'm going home" he said walking over to the car waiting for him
"Another splendid performance young master" the driver said
"Not really, it was boring" Reki said throwing his skateboard to the unoccupied seat beside him before he put his seatbelt on "let's get going, I have school in the morning" he said as he glanced out the window
"Yes" the driver said starting the car and made his way out the area used for skateboarding matches
"Stop by McDonald's before we head home" Reki commented
"As you wish" the driver said complying to Reki's every request
"Boring, skateboarding was getting boring" that was the thought that started plaguing Reki's mind as they made their way into the highway
"Young master....are you having fun?" The driver asked glancing at the car's front mirror to see a blank expression on Reki's face
"It's boring" Reki said "It's no longer fun.... I...." reki said as a sad expression took over his face, he couldn't finish his sentence but his driver got the idea of what was going through Reki's mind
"It's alright young master, I'm sure you'll find opponents who will bring back the spark" the driver said in an attempt to comfort the red haired boy shedding tears
"Is it wrong that I feel this way?" Reki asked
"Not at all, it was bound to happen at one point or the other" the driver said which only brought more tears to Reki's eyes
"I don't want to hate skateboarding, I don't wanna give it up either but at the rate I'm going....I'm a-afraid that......" Reki mumbled to himself as he clenched his shirt in agony. People called him a genius, number 1, the best and the unbeatable. Those words were nothing but curses to reki, it meant that he was getting closer and closer to loosing touch with his love of skateboarding and that scared him a lot. Not only that the more bored he grew of the sport the more pain he felt in his heart. That's how much he loved skateboarding, it was everything to him and it was tearing him apart each time it was affirmed that he was unbeatable.
The driver started feeling a bit awkward, he wasn't expecting this to turn into some sort of therapy session or anything like that. He just wanted to get a conversation going but it became apparent to him that he stepped on a landmine
"I'm sure you'll find a worthy rival and friend who will bring that spark back" The driver said smiling awkwardly
Reki didn't respond, he just cried his burdened heart out for the night until he found himself in a dreamless slumber.
In the end the trip to McDonald's never happened. That was three years ago, that event happened a couple weeks before Reki found himself being sent to Japan to live with his mother and her new family with the man she remarried.
"You'll find your spark there" was the only reason Reki got from his father before he departed for Japan.
In the three year he's been in Japan, Reki never once came across anything that gave him a spark. He went to S competitions in search for the spark, the trills, the fun, for anything really but he never got anything and in turn mediocre came to define his skateboarding. His heart was no longer in it. He could skate just fine but he forgot his unique style of skating, the style that brought him the nickname 'Flames'. He seemed to have forgotten it which caused him to desperately
search everywhere for the spark that will ignite his love for skateboarding up in flames. And for the first time in three years, Reki believes he found his spark which was in the form of a new transfer student
"Woah look at that"
"That guy looks so cool"
"Amazing"
"And he's just a rookie"
"Langa" Reki mumbled as he watched the screen showcasing the match between Langa and shadow. For the first time in years, Reki's heart skipped a beat just from witnessing skateboarding match. A rush of excitement exploded within him, the excitement he's been seeking for, the one he longed for with all his heart. He was feeling it right now
"He's my spark" Reki mumbled as he watched Langa pass the finish line
"The rookie wins"
An uproar of cheers was heard from everyone, some people passed shadow sneers or words of mockery to his new found loss. Reki could careless for all that, the thing that he wanted all this time was in his reach and he wasn't about to let him go. Reki without much thought walked over to Langa and grabbed his hands while looking him straight in the eyes with great determination
"Langa, be my spark"
