"Fucking finally!"
Audrey flinched, looking up from her rather not-exciting crossword about Medieval Medicine to find Draco salivating over a letter he had tight in his grip, another envelope sat next to him on the bed that had been sat there for the best part of two days, both of them too engrossed in each other to read them. She'd also received letters from Amycus, Louis, Alecto, even her Grandmother because of the stupidity of a 'claim' they all have on her regarding her custody. She didn't open them, all of them being either threats or promises regarding what she is to say in her statement in two days. She'd been counting down the date for weeks; March 19. They'd been in Audrey's room for about a week, and they were free tomorrow as of a letter they got from Dumbledore yesterday, which also provided a date for the final task; April 17- two months before the summer break, exactly. A month from the present.
"They're letting us out. Well, me, you and other Ministry worker kids, provided we don't have the pox thing. It's the Ministry Ball for one hundred and ninety seven years since it was founded. In the Atrium tomorrow evening," he explained, with a smile.
"They were letting us out anyways. I thought your Father was a school Governor," she questioned, standing and approaching to pick up her letter. "Also, my Ministry worker Father's dead."
"My Mother's the chair of this charity run by the Ministry. For orphans and the like. Women too. And Father provides donations for causes he sees fit," he spoke, focussing on her hands opening her letter.
"Good on your Mother. Just make sure she doesn't pull a Mrs. Birling."
"Who the fuck is Mrs. Birling?" he looked at her, confusedly.
"She's from a play called 'An Inspector Calls'. It's quite your forte, actually. It's on a shelf in the wardrobe. It will occupy your mind later on," she explained.
"I want to know now. I've also been thinking. You didn't tell me about your second task. What it was like," he spoke, grasping her hands into his own.
"It was... awful, really. I found her in no time at all, but it was a hard job getting to her. I had to waver with the mermaids. They kept touching my hair, and I felt them examining me. Cedric and Viktor got no trouble from them."
"Touching your hair?"
"Yes, it was strange. They seemed to be arguing with each other, as if unsure about what to do with me. Two were braiding my hair and adjusting my twisted straps. Another had a trident pointed at me, and was sort of telling the other two off at first. Then more came along, and started grabbing my feet," she furrowed her brows as she spoke.
"Well, you know mermaids. Queer creatures," he shrugged, lying on the bed and placing a foot in her lap. "Rub my foot, would you? I rubbed yours the other day."
"When I got to Rose, one of them attempted to cradle me. That's why I took quite a bit. Harry got Ron and got out, so did the other two. I don't know how I did it, but I threw a hex at one, and they all just disappeared," she said, beginning to rub gently into Draco's foot. "The last task is a month away, and I'm still not enthusiastic about it as I was before. I don't give a damn about eternal glory. I just want to be normal Audrey Crouch, who has job 'X', with 'Y' amount of children and 'Z' amount of Galleons in the vault. Not, Audrey Crouch, Triwizard bullshit champion eternal glory blah, blah, blah!" she huffed, and turned to him.
"Job 'X'? I thought you wanted to go to the sporting school?"
"I don't think that's for me anymore. I'd much rather do something academic. I've been thinking about it. I want to come in from work and put pyjamas on and eat whatever I want. Not come in from work, have a work out, eat leaves and seeds and get zero sleep. Athleticism is difficult. I spoke to Krum about it," she said, still studying the way his face moved when she rubbed certain parts of his feet. None of them had a particular thing for feet in a sexual manner, Draco just liked his feet rubbed, so he rubbed hers so she'd owe him a favour.
