Chapter 11: Unexpected Guests
It turned out that Nessie was fine. She was just embarrassed because a boy had wanted to take her on a date, she refused him and he was not very happy about it. According to Alice the boy was all talk so Renesmee had nothing to worry about. I could tell something else was bothering her but she insisted it was nothing; however, she did look at Jake in a strange way. I wondered if it had to do with him. So when she wanted to go hunting I volunteered to go with her. After running a ways into the surrounding forest I confronted her.
“Renesmee, what is up, I can tell there is something bothering you.” I say making her stop and look at me.
“It’s nothing Aunt Beth.” She says back. She was the only one who called me Beth. She said she preferred it to Lizzy. Either way I liked how she had her own name for me.
“Oh yes it is. You can tell me. We are far enough away that no one can hear us… not even your dad. Spill it what has got you so distracted? Is it still about that boy from school?” I was trying to get her to open up but she was just as stubborn as her parents.
“No… well… a little. But not really.”
“Just talk to me. Please, I will try and help whatever it is.”
“Okay… I was very embarrassed about what happened at school. But that is not why I am so distracted. The reason is Jacob. I know he imprinted on me, but he has yet to really talk to me about it. I think he might be upset that he imprinted on me. That he wishes that it was not me. I don’t know I am just really confused.” She says very fast. It was like there was a flood gate that had just been opened. “I really like him but he just acts like I am his little sister. I wonder if he just thinks of me as a little girl. But I am not a little girl any more. I am growing up. I am not little any more, I wish he would just say something. It is driving me crazy. Today when that boy asked me out… I wished it was Jake who was asking Me.” she said quietly, finishing her rant.
I was a little shocked at her outburst as I tried to short through all she had said. “Well… maybe you should try talking to him about it.” I suggested.
“No what if he laughs at me? It would be humiliating.” She replies quickly.
“Okay, well first of all I know you are not a little girl any more. As much as we all would like to think you are still a baby, you aren’t. I think Jacob, like the rest of us, is just having a hard time adjusting to how fast you are growing up.” I say trying to talk her through her insecurities.
