Chapter Five

Richie woke up to see Eddie sleeping in the back trunk with 2 blankets. He wondered why he had woken up so early when he heard his phone ringing from the front seat. The obnoxious ringtone pierced the quiet morning air. Richie groggily climbed up to the front of the car and grabbed his phone. It was Ben. He wondered why Ben would be calling him at 6 in the morning on a Sunday. He answered and was about to greet Ben but was cut off immediately.

"Richie! Richie listen! You need to help me right now," Ben said in a panicked voice.

"Okay, okay Ben, slow down. What's happening?" Richie said as he rubbed his eyes. Ben took a deep breath and started again.

"Okay. So- so at like 5 this morning Beverly called me and when I picked up, the only thing I heard was her crying into the phone," Ben started again. Richie knew this had to be really bad otherwise Ben would probably have taken care of it himself. Richie reached over to where Eddie was still sleeping and shook him gently.

"Eddie. Eddie wake up, Ben's on the phone and I think you should hear this," Richie whispered to him.

"Is Eddie there too?" Ben asked from the phone.

"Yeah, we were hanging out last night and he slept over," Richie said, which wasn't a complete lie. Eddie was sitting up now and listening in on the phone too. Ben continued.

"I asked her what was wrong and what happened because I hadn't seen or heard from her since we had that sleepover at her house. I had texted her a lot and tried to call her twice but she didn't respond to any of it. She said something that is really, really bad you guys and I don't know how to help her," Ben said quietly. He sounded on the verge of tears. Richie and Eddie looked at each other with worried expressions on their faces.

"What's going on Ben?" Eddie asked.

"Guys, Bev's in trouble. She told me that she hadn't responded to me because she was being forced not to. She said that her dad had gotten home a lot earlier than she had expected and that her apartment was still a mess from the sleepover when he got home. She said that he found out about the sleepover and how she had all of us over. Beverly said that her dad won't let her out of the house or out of his sight. He doesn't want her talking or communicating at all with us anymore and he's keeping her locked up in her room. She said that he wants to make sure that she's still his "little girl" and- and I think he's hurting her guys. She said he's only feeding her once a day and that he put a camera in her room so he could see everything she's doing," Ben explained everything with such love in his voice. They could both tell how much Beverly meant to him. And to everyone, of course.

"Oh my god! That's horrible! Poor Bev, I'm sure she's scared as hell right now. We have to get her out of there for good," Richie said, anger pulsing through his veins. Eddie didn't say anything. Richie looked over at him and saw that Eddie had his face in his hands and he was shaking. Richie reached over to him and grabbed his hand.

"It'll be okay Ed's. It's going to be okay," Richie said as he squeezed Eddie's hand in comfort. Eddie nodded. Richie turned back to the phone.

"Ben, we'll meet you at the clubhouse in 10 minutes. Get everyone else and hurry," he said firmly. Ben agreed and hung up. Eddie and Richie drove to the clubhouse in silence, both deep into their own thoughts. Richie parked the car by the woods and ripped the keys out of the car. They both unbuckled quickly. Richie walked over to Eddie's side of the car and opened the door for Eddie. They grabbed hands and walked quickly to the clubhouse. They walked down the stairs into the clubhouse and saw Ben sitting on the hammock crying. They saw Mike sitting there with him, trying his best to comfort Ben. Ben sat there with tears streaming down his face. Richie and Eddie walked up to him slowly. Eddie let go of Richie's hand and looked down at Ben.

"I'm so sorry Ben. This is probably the hardest for you out of any of us. Is there anything we can do to make you feel better?" Eddie said quietly. Ben sniffed and looked up at Eddie with a sudden burst of anger.

"All I want is to get Bev out of that place before her dad can do anything else to her," he said. Eddie nodded and looked around. No one else was there yet.

"We will. We'll take him down. We just need everyone to get here so we can come up with a plan," Mike said strongly. They heard footsteps coming down the stairs just then. Stanley and Bill came down and walked over quickly.

"We need to get Beverly right now," was all Stanley said. They nodded and started planning.
