Chapter Four

Eddie woke up the next morning smiling and blushing. He was happier than he'd been in a long time. It was Monday which meant school and normally, Eddie wouldn't be excited about this fact but knowing that he would see Richie there brought his mood up. He got ready and went downstairs for breakfast. He found his mom waiting for him at the table.

"Eddie come eat with me," she said and gestured to an empty bowl, spoon, and box of Cheerios. He sat down and poured his cereal, not saying anything. He almost didn't feel like he was at the table with his mother but instead floating on a cloud.

"Eddie bear, what's going on with you? Are you sick? It's like you're not even at the table with me," Sonia said and put a hand to his forehead to check his temperature.

"What? Oh, I'm fine mom really. I'm just glad my friends and I are connecting again," Eddie said. Oh and the fact that Richie kissed me yesterday. He thought privately. His mom still looked concerned.

"Really mom, I'm okay. Don't worry about me," he tried to reassure her.

"Okay Eddie bear, fine. But if you go anywhere today, you must take your meds with you. I don't want you getting sick," she said.

"Fine mom, I will," he said but was super annoyed about it. Eddie didn't need any medication. He was fine without it and didn't take any of the stuff she gave him unless she forced him to. So Eddie grabbed his fanny pack full of meds and said bye. Eddie started walking down the path to Richie's house. He missed Richie so much and it hadn't even been 24 hours yet. He wanted to spend every minute of every day with Richie. Eddie got to his house and rang the doorbell. A woman opened the door.

"Hi... um... is Richie here?" Eddie asked her.

"Yeah he's just in his bedroom. RICHIE! SOMEONE'S HERE TO SEE YOU!" she called up the stairs. "I'm Richie's mom, Maggie," she looked back at him kindly.

"Oh, I'm Eddie Kaspbrak," he replied. Just then Richie came downstairs and his face lit up when he saw Eddie standing in the doorway. Richie's mom walked back to the kitchen and now it was just the two of them.

"Hi Ed's!" Richie smiled. Eddie blushed and walked inside.

"Hi Rich," Eddie said as he put his arms around Richie's waist and hugged him tightly. Richie put his arms around Eddie's shoulders and embraced him. They walked inside and went up to Richie's room. Richie was worried Eddie would think his room was messy but it was quite the opposite.

"I'm sorry, my room's a mess," Richie started.

"It's perfect. I love your room. It kind of feels like....home," Eddie smiled up at Richie happily. Richie laughed and cupped Eddie's face in his hands.

"Ed's you're adorable," Eddie blushed at that. He kissed Richie and then let go of him. They fell onto the bed and Eddie giggled. Richie thought everything about Eddie was cute. And then the most incredible idea Richie had ever had. He grabbed Eddie's hand and pulled him up off the bed.

"C'mon. I have something to show you," Richie said.

"Okay," Eddie followed Richie and they got in Richie's car. Richie drove the car to a private meadow. Eddie had no idea what they were doing. Richie really hoped Eddie would like this. He parked the car on the side of a road in a neighborhood that was less than a mile away from the meadow. He held his hand out. Eddie smiled and took his hand. They walked in comfortable silence all the way to the meadow. Richie had his backpack with him and he had a blanket and a bunch of food in it. Eddie didn't know this yet. They got to the top of the meadow and there was a perfect view of the slowly setting sun. The grass was green and soft with beautiful wildflowers growing all over it. It was a picture perfect setting. Eddie gasped.

"Rich, this is incredible. Absolutely amazing," Eddie twirled around with his arms outstretched and felt the evening breeze flow freely through his arms.

"You're the only person I've ever brought here," Richie admitted. Eddie stopped and processed this. He walked up to Richie and kissed him quickly, pulling away before Richie could kiss back.

"Hey!" Richie protested. Eddie laughed. Richie took off his backpack and pulled out a red checkered blanket and unfolded it. He put it on the ground and gestured for Eddie to sit down. Eddie sat and watched Richie. Rich got out two sandwiches, two chocolate chip cookies, and two bottles of water.

"I know it's not much but I couldn't find very much in my fridge and this was what I came up with," Richie sat down and handed Eddie one of each of the foods.

"I love it," Eddie said.

"I thought we could watch the sun set," Richie said with a small crooked smile that made Eddie blush every time he saw it.

"That sounds lovely," Eddie said and they both stopped talking while they ate.

Once they finished eating, Richie put all of the trash back in his backpack and they sat together, arms wrapped around each other, watching the sun set. Richie looked over at Eddie. His hair was the most beautiful golden brown and there were sparkles in his eyes as he watched the sun go down. Richie thought Eddie was incredibly cute. He leaned over and kissed Eddie's cheek. Then he turned back and they watched the sun go all the way down, not saying a word.

Once the sun had completely set, Richie grabbed Eddie and they laid down together. They snuggled up to each other and looked up at the stars.

"You know, your freckles look just like the stars," Richie whispered into Eddie's ear. Eddie blushed but you couldn't tell because of the darkness. Eddie realized something right then that he didn't know was possible after being with someone after only a day

"I love you," Eddie whispered. Richie held back a huge smile and held on to Eddie tighter. He knew he loved Eddie way too much already.

"I love you too Ed's," he leaned in and kissed Eddie. Eddie kissed back so lovingly. They laid there under the stars kissing, and falling more in love with each other every as second passed. Eddie suddenly got up and pulled Richie up with him. He put his arms on Richie's shoulders and Richie put his arms on Eddie's waist. They started dancing slowly.

"I know this wasn't an official first date, but I couldn't imagine a first date better than this," Eddie said quietly. Richie hugged Eddie.

"Me neither,"
