Chapter Eight

Eddie opened his eyes and saw Richie standing in front of him with something behind his back. Richie smiled and from behind him, pulled out a canvas painting. It had a truly incredible painting of Eddie on it. It was a picture of Eddie that Richie had in his room- Eddie wearing a pastel yellow sweater, his hair a picture perfect golden brown and his eyes sparkling. He was standing in the sunlight at golden hour, smiling brightly into the camera. Richie had recreated that picture almost exactly. Richie didn't know he could paint so well but when he started, it was really easy to paint Eddie's perfect portrait. Eddie gasped and smiled. Richie handed him the painting and Eddie hugged it.

"I love it Richie. I love it so much," he said joyfully. "It's so good! I didn't know you could paint so well!"

"It wasn't hard to paint your beautiful face Ed's," Richie admitted. Eddie got up off of the bed and kissed Richie, still sort of smiling. The sunlight filled the bedroom. It was the perfect moment.

"I didn't know when we would be able to work on the project together so I just sat at my desk, painting," Richie explained.

"I finished mine of you too," Eddie whispered. Richie lit up at this. "I'll show it to you tomorrow. Right now, I just want to be here with you," Eddie held on to Richie at the waist and Richie hugged back swaying a little bit.

"We should watch a movie," Richie suggested. Eddie nodded and smiled. They went downstairs. Richie's parents were at a fancy restaurant that night so they were home alone. They sat down on the couch together, Eddie curled up against Richie's chest. Richie wrapped his arm around Eddie's shoulder and turned on Netflix.

"What do you wanna watch Eddie Spaghetti?" Richie said, looking down at Eddie.

"Don't call me that," Eddie said, trying his best to hold back a smile.

"Whatever you say Ed's," Eddie rolled his eyes.

"We should watch a comedy," Eddie said.

"That was a trick question, I was going to choose a horror movie either way," Richie smirked.

"Noooooo. I hate horror movies. You know that!" Eddie protested.

"I do know that. Which is why I'm picking it," Richie laughed and went through all of the horror movies on Netflix. He chose Truth Or Dare which Richie had heard was terrifying. After the first 10 minutes, Eddie was clinging to Richie in fear. This was exactly why Richie had chosen this movie. He loved it when Eddie held on to him. Eddie also secretly knew this and he loved being close to Richie. They weren't even paying that close of attention to the actual movie. They were just enjoying being with each other.

Eventually, Eddie started falling asleep, comfortable in Richie's presence. He rested his head on Richie and closed his eyes. The movie had just finished and Richie turned off the TV. He held on to Eddie and fell asleep too. They didn't even notice when Richie's parents walked through the front door, back from their night out. Richie's parents didn't know that Eddie and Richie were together. They didn't even know that they had started hanging out regularly again so it was a surprise when they found Richie and Eddie asleep in each other's arms on the couch. Richie's mom put a finger to her mouth to let his dad know to be quiet. They closed the door and his mom walked to the kitchen. Richie heard his mom's heels clicking across the floor and woke up. It took him a minute to figure out what was going on. He finally figured out that his parents were home. He bolted up and this startled Eddie, causing him to sit up quickly as well. They saw both of his parents staring at them.

"H-hi guys. We were just...um....watching a movie," Richie stammered. He obviously hadn't wanted his parents to know about this until he felt it right to tell them. Eddie was beet red.

"Hi honey. We just got back. I didn't mean to wake you guys, I'm sorry," Richie's mom apologized.

"It's okay, we both just fell asleep. I didn't even realize that-" Richie began, trying to smooth over this whole thing but his mom interrupted him.

"Rich, it's okay. I mean, you didn't just fall asleep on each other accidentally. We can both tell. And that's okay. Really. We support you," his mom said kindly. His dad nodded. Eddie and Richie both sighed in relief.

"How long have you been together?" his dad asked, sitting on the couch.

"Not long. Only a few days. But we've liked each other for a lot longer than that," Richie replied truthfully. Eddie nodded and grabbed Richie's hand. Richie's parents were both so happy that he had found Eddie. They looked perfect together and Richie needed someone like that in his life. Someone to care for and love with all of his heart. It didn't matter if it was a boy or a girl, all that mattered was that Richie was happy.

"I should probably go. My mom'll be worried if I don't show up soon," Eddie said. Richie nodded. Eddie kissed Richie on the cheek and made for the door. "Thank you for being so supportive," Eddie said to Richie's parents. When Eddie walked out the door, it was almost dark. It was 7:30 and Eddie's mom was going to be so mad at him. Eddie hadn't told her that he would be out today and she had no idea where he was. She obviously didn't know about Richie and Eddie didn't plan on telling her anytime soon. He started sprinting home and by the time he got back, he was completely out of breath and needed his inhaler. It was now almost 8:00. He ran inside and saw his mom sitting on the couch waiting for him. She stormed over to him.

"Eddie where have you been? I've been worried sick!" she fussed. He finally caught his breath.

"I was with my friends. I'm sorry I didn't tell you where I was. I didn't know I would be out with them this late," Eddie apologized half heartedly. He honestly didn't care if she was worried about him. She forced him to take pills he didn't need and was way too overprotective. He wondered sometimes if she actually loved him.

"And you didn't think to call me and say you would be home late?" she said, walking into the kitchen and grabbing one of the many bottles of medication and handing Eddie two pills from the bottle. He looked at them for a second and threw them on the ground.

"No mom! No pills! I'm done with this. I don't need any of this stuff! You can't keep making me do this," Eddie said forcefully. Sonia gaped at ihm.

"You do need them Eddie. You absolutely need them,"

"NO! I DON'T." Eddie shouted. Sonia grabbed his chin and forced the pills into his mouth. Eddie started crying. The tears fell like a waterfall. He was so tired of this. All he wanted was Richie right now. Richie was the only one who could make him feel better.

"Oh Eddie bear. Don't cry. You know I do this because I love you," Sonia said wiping a tear off of his cheek. Eddie shook his head.

"No you don't. If you did, you wouldn't make me take these. You wouldn't act up over every single thing I did," Eddie sat down on the couch and ran his hands through his hair. Sonia frowned.

"What has gotten into you Eddie?" she said firmly. Eddie couldn't believe her.

"I don't know mom. Maybe it's the fact that you don't ever act like you actually love me or maybe I found someone who loves me and now I don't need you. Maybe I have people in my life besides you that care about me for real. Ones that don't care if I take pills or make a big deal about everything I do," Eddie said loudly. He hadn't talked to his mom this way before and it honestly felt so good. Empowering, even.

"What are you talking about?" she said.

"I'm saying that I have friends who care about me and the most amazing person that actually loves me and I think I love them too!" Eddie cried.

"Who?" Sonia narrowed her eyes. Eddie knew that if he told her, she would flip but he didn't even care.

"Richie! Richie loves me mom! I love Richie too! I love him more than anything! And he is always there for me. He cares about me, not about taking pills, he cares about me." Eddie pointed a finger at her. "And you can't change that. You can't hurt Richie. You can't hurt me. You cannot do anything to change the fact that we love each other," Sonia pursed her lips. She grabbed Eddie's arm and pulled him up the stairs. Eddie tried to get away.

"You are coming with me. NOW,"
