Cassie gripped the wheel tightly, and little beads of sweat formed on her forehead. Nevertheless, she branded a brave smile, turned to me and said:

'We're here.'

Even I was nervous, to be honest with you. I mean, I'd heard of what happened when Cassie last met Mitch and I could only hope she didn't react the same here. We knocked on the door and Mitch opened the door, wearing a black pinstriped suit, nothing like what he usually wore. This totally confused me! He never wore suits!

'Ahh, Cassie, darling, I was expecting you.' Mitch said, ignoring me. There was something seriously weird about the way he said that.

'Welcome to my humble place of residence, Cassie.' He said, waving his hands around. 'Feel free to make yourself at home.' He led us into the lounge where a bunch of vampires sat. They snarled at us angrily, most likely sensing the werewolf blood.

'Now, thats no way to treat my daughter and her next of kin!' He said in an mocking voice. He tutted and vampires were quiet again. I spotted Max who had a blank expression on his face. I caught his eye and smiled, the edges of my mouth curving in a way that Mitch would not notice.

Mitch continued the tour, finishing at the library, where he left us. Before he went, he uttered not a word towards me. I sighed, realizing I needed to be more evil to please the man. But I couldn't push it.

He was dangerous.

........................................................

Cassie sat next to me, clutching my hand protectively as we ate dinner. I could tell she still didn't trust the fake facade of the man, I admired her stubborness. I could honestly say that I wavered on the borderline between trust and betrayal when it came to Mitch, or should I say grandfather.

A maid, no older than me, came to collect the dishes, as she passed me I whispered a 'my names Cassie, whats yours?' and pressed my buisness card into her hand so she had my number, I thought she would make an excellent allie if something went wrong.

She smiled saying 'Ashley' and hurried off, appreciating my kindness. It was the least I could do. My mother noted the exchange, her mouth curving to give me a smile, a real smile.

The problem was, only a few steps away, Mitch smiled. Lets just say this smile had a deeper meaning.

'I saw you, don't you worry, my pet. Let the fun begin, here.
