Life Beside You

Part 10: Escape

After my time with Max, I came up with a plan. With that in mind, and my backup team, of course, I walked straight into Mum's room and shook her awake. She woke up shouting 'Get off of me! Arrrggh!' And I giggled gently. Seeing it was me she relaxed but her eyes searched behind to scan the faces behind me of Calie, Max, Angelo and Maya (the girl from my task). Calie and Angelo were Max' and (I hoped) my new best friends, and they, along with Max himself and my only friend Maya, were the key to our escape. 

'Whatever's going on here, too much weird stuff has happened lately, and I'll do whatever you need Sapphire, dear.' Mum said, engulfing me in women's perfume and motherly aura as she hugged me tightly. This was what I lived for. I rushedly told her my plan as the other four began step one.

'Mum, listen. I have devised a plan and the first step has already begun. Mitch, or 'master' as you call him, is below us right now, and is going to be told by Angelo that we have already escaped towards the North. Angelo and Calie will both be sent to help with our false capture. They will be able to tell us if there is a change of plan and do everything to divert the team away from us.' Cassie nodded for me to continue.

'Ok. Step two, Maya will come up here and give us the all clear. Since she is only a fairly young vampire, at two-hundred years, she will not be sent to capture us, and neither will Max. We will then walk downstairs and exit towards the South, and then step three will commence.' At that very moment, the door burst open, and Maya whispered urgently, 'Come, we have precious time before we are found.' That tone of voice scared me, as Maya was naturally outgoing and careless in all she did. 

We walked down the curved staircase, pausing as several loud voices were lifted towards us along the corridor. We ducked into the nearest room.

'So, anyway,' A girl said excitedly, 'I was walking along, and this really hot guy came up to me and asked me to get in his car! I mean, what luck! And then he brought me here, to you!" She said, briefly glancing at the vampire next to her.

The girl was quite clearly human. She had strong emotions and an aura that screamed her matelessness to the world. With the red hair and green eyes, I wasn't suprised at her clear fiesty attitude. Not to be stereotypical or anything.

Then the vampire gave a sickly fake smile and said, 'Wait here, Topaz, I'll just be a second. I need to pop in the loo here.'

The vampire disappeared into a room nearby her and a second girl I hadn't seen before began to talk to the red head.

'There's something off here Topaz, you look drugged, and didn't you notice how fake she was just then! These people are seriously weird. We need to leave. Now.' The blonde girl said seriously. She had deep blue eyes that were wiser and older than her appearance. 

'But Amethyst, I don't wanna go! There's nothing wrong with the nice people!' Topaz said pleadingly.

Strange. I thought. They all have names of jewels. Amethyst, Topaz..... not to mention my name was Sapphire. I wasn't sure. But what I knew was that we needed to take these humans with us before the vampires came back. It was risky, but we had to do it. I whispered to Maya and mum 'Now.'We waltzed over to the humans and they turned to us warily.

'Who are you?' Amethyst said confused.  

I simply whispered 'We're the good guys. You'll have to trust me on that.' Amethyst dragged Topaz after us. Not a great idea on our part.

Thats when all hell broke loose.
