POV Kenma
Her chest started rising and falling rapidly, the way it always did, when she started coughing really hard. I turned my head to Kuroo, he looked at her, his face twisted. He was such a compassionate person. Every time we would walk out of the room, his eyes would pin down on the floor. He always looked so sad after saying good-bye to my mother.
It felt like I was sharing my pain with him. I lowered my gaze. There was no right for me to do that actually.
I stood up from my chair. After her coughing calmed I spoke up.
"I will go get a new bottle of water." I said and walked towards the door, leaving Kuroo and my mother behind.POV Kuroo
"Kuroo." She tilted her head and smiled at me weakly. The energy in her eyes was already fading. Her lips started trembling as she spoke quietly. Since last week she got even worse.
I looked at her with big eyes, trying to hide the pity feeling in my chest.
"Kuroo." She repeated and reached her right hand out.
I looked at her hand and then back to her. After a little moment, I laid my hand in her palm.
She clasped it, not too tightly, there was no energy left in her limbs. Her hand was cold, yet so soft.
"There was once this certain person in my life. I loved him more than anything, I did everything for him." She spoke as I listened to her closely. It felt like she has been waiting for Kenma to leave the room.
"But I was young, naive and stupid. After I told him that I carried his baby and that I got sick, he left me."
I watched her eyes tearing up slowly.
"Kenma has never met his dad. But he came back a few times to get control over me. I didn't allow him to, I didn't need him anymore. After my son was born he was something new I could hold onto. Kenma became my everything."
I pressed my lips together. The feeling that bottled up in me was something different. I was scared, but at the same time really calm. The touch of her hand made me feel safe.
"Kenma trusts you, I was always so scared to leave him behind alone." Her head turned around and she looked at the ceiling, the tears were rolling down the temples, soaking in her long dark hair. A weak smile formed on her lips.
"I want you to take care of my Kenma. Don't ever break his heart. Don't dare to."
I looked down without responding. My hands started shaking, my head was pounding. I felt like crying but there was nothing to come out. The ice cold shiver crawling down my spine made my whole body freeze.
Suddenly my eyes shot up as her grip around my hand loosened slowly.
"Mrs. Kozume." I said and grabbed her limp wrist. With shaking legs I stood up from my chair and walked up closer to her. I shook her hand a few times. Her eyes were still looking deep into mine, but the light in them was gone.
"Mrs. Kozume!" I shouted and looked around.
The panic made my head spin. I was not able to think straight. My eyes searched for a button but a cloak of blur wrapped in front of my sight.
With quick steps I ran towards the door, clasping the door handle. As I found myself on the corridor I started running towards a nurse.
"Hey! Hey! I need help. She's not moving!" I shouted waving my hand. The nurse dropped everything in her hands and started running into the room, a few other nurses following her.
My feet were like glued down. I was not able to take a step any further, as I saw him standing at the end of the corridor.
Kenma looked at me with big eyes. The bottle in his hand started shaking. He took one step after the other. Slowly, coming closer.
The shouting and noises were hearable through the closed door. He stopped in front of me.
I looked down to him his eyes were still wide open.
Kenma's gaze went to the door. He was slowly leading towards the direction of it.
I closed my eyes and stretched my arm out, to stop him. As he ran into my arm I pushed him back lightly. He looked at me. The yellow pupils were shaking.
"Kuroo." He said quietly, right after he pressed his lips together quickly. I stepped in front of him.
It wouldn't be a good idea for him to get inside right now. They were trying to revive her.
Kenma tried to step away from me but I stopped him again. Suddenly the bottle of water fell to the ground.
Kenma slammed both palms against my chest and pushed me away.
I lurched a few steps back, but got right back in position.
Tears started running down Kenma's face. The clenching of his teeth, caused veins to pop out from the sides of his neck.
I grabbed his shoulders and tightened my grip around them.
Kenma lowered his gaze. The tears dripped onto the floor, wetting his shoes.
Suddenly his whole body relaxed and he leaned his forehead against my chest.
I wrapped my arms around him. The shock still didn't fade. My body felt like rejecting everything that my brain commanded to it.
I looked down, as I noticed Kenma almost slipping out of my arms. His legs couldn't hold him anymore. Slowly I let us down on the floor, my arms still wrapped around him.
He sobbed and cried against my chest. Everytime he inhaled his whole body started shaking. The thick layer of tears soaked into my shirt and I tightened my grip around him, chin resting on top of his head.
I wasn't sure what to do, or say. All my body allowed me to do, was to hold him tight and stroke his back up and down.
I was holding onto her everything. What if she wanted me to do better than that?
