"Hello? Y/N?" Hina inquired. "Yeah, what's up?" I focused on keeping my voice level and calm. "Hey, Mrs. Svennings sent out a group e-mail. She said that she suspected students had snuck out." My heart raced as I heard this. My eyes grew wide, my tail straightened, and my ears went stiff as though they had succumbed to rigor mortise. That dirty-

"Does she know who it was?" It was harder to disguise my stress now. Legoshi's huge paws were clasped over his mouth. "No, but how weird is that? Her guess was that it's a couple of stoners or some horny bastards tryna get laid. I'm paraphrasing of course, but yeah." She cracked herself up and we could tell she had just called to talk shit. Both me and Legoshi relaxed a bit. I resumed the conversation. "Does she at least know what family they were from?" I crossed my fingers and shut my eyes tight. "She didn't say." I got a little more anxious upon hearing this. "But if she didn't say then probably not. I mean, I think she's looking for someone to rat them out; why wouldn't she tell us what they looked like?" That made sense. Shy would she withhold that information from us?

Legoshi breathed a sigh of relief. I think he'd intended it to be quiet, but froze as he heard his voice, thinned as he sighed. "Y/N, was that you?" Well, she gave me a window! As I opened my mouth and was about to lie and say it was me, Hina continued her thought by saying, "Wait, that sounded nothing like you..." She trailed off, but I still planned to explain it away and say it was me. Well, that was until I was cut off yet again with a shrill gasp from the other line. Both of us whined and my ears recoiled. "Hina," I pleaded. "I told you, it's not p-" But before I could tell her those sounds hurt my ears, she interrupted with two questions that made my stomach drop as well as Legoshi's ears.

"Was it you?! Are you with someone?!" Gasping for air like a fish out of water, I tried to speak but found it impossible. Legoshi stayed quiet, his eyes wider than Putin walking down the hall. "Oh my god, it's totally you!" Hina shouted over the line. "Hina, keep it down; your roommates'll hear you!" "I'm fine, they sleep with earplugs in," She scoffed. This confused me for a few seconds and I didn't know which question to ask first. "Ya know, because their hearing is so good, the smallest noise would wake 'em up. But let's get back to you!" She spoke even louder, as if to emphasize her earlier point.

"So, who are you with?" She said in a sing-song voice. "Hina, I'm- I'm not..." Mid-sentence, I realized it was pointless to deny it. She knew it was me. I sighed, defeated and opened my eyes. I saw Legoshi giving the 'don't do it' motion with his hands and shaking his head, but I shrugged and spoke. "Promise not to tell?" Legoshi face palmed but then scooted closer. "I think you might be able to guess..." There was silence as she thought. A shriek-like gasp then emitted from my phone and it felt as if my eardrums popped. "Ayy, how's it hanging, wolf boi?!" She said with a prominent laugh in her voice.

Legoshi got flustered and responded.

...Well- he tried anyways, and that's what counts.

"Hey, big H, um... what's uh- poppin'?" He said haltingly. I hid my face so he wouldn't see my snickering face. Hina made no attempt to hide her cackling. "Legoshi, dude!" She got out between frequent breaths and continued roaring with laughter. Legoshi uncomfortably faked a laugh.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw a bright light. My heart sank as I realized the light was a flashlight. Oh shit! I swiped the phone and hung up. Legoshi started to question what I was doing. That is, until he saw the light that was headed our way. He jumped up right away and held out his paw. I grabbed it and helped myself up. "Hey, you! Stop right there!" I was scared shitless as I heard Mrs. Svenning's voice calling out to us. We took off and I just hoped to god she hadn't seen our faces. But even if she saw our outlines, it would be easy to identify us.

We ran, changing direction every ten seconds or so, so that if she was chasing after us, we would throw her off. I've never been so grateful for my stamina as a fox. Legoshi caught sight of the heavily wooded forest that's near Cherryington. We quickly traversed the woods, the floor's leaves softly crunching beneath our paws. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flowing stream. It hadn't occurred to me how thirsty I was until I heard running water.  We had been running for a while now, I figured we were safe. "Legoshi!" I shouted as we both still ran. "I think we can stop now!" He looked behind us, a ponderous expression on his face. He then nodded and we slowed and came to a halt.

As soon as my legs stopped moving, my vision went blurry. I could hardly stand and my hearing became muffled. I felt like I would throw up- or maybe collapse. I wasn't sure; it felt like both were equally probable. I was about to let myself fall, but I had already started to, involuntarily. I didn't even notice until I was on the way down. "Y/N! Are you feeling al-" Legoshi's voice faded out.
